I've had that exact Qolsys motion detection sensor installed for over four years. It has never once given me a false alarm. I did read the instructions about where to place it. I have tripped it by accident a dozen or so times over the years when I've activated "Arm Away" while I'm home, but those were not false alarms but my mistakes that actually showed the sensor works. Your video is very informative and worth watching, but I have to say these sensors are exceptionally reliable when they are installed properly.

I don’t think it is possible. We had two cats, they weigh less in 8 pounds each. They have set off our motion detectors with SimpliSafe multiple times. The last cruise we were on our neighbors had to come to our home at 2 am for the police to storm through our home due to a false alarm. We’ve turned them upside down. We reduced the sensitivity. HORRIBLE THINGS!

Ohhhh, I did not realize you had simplisafe. My information on the simplisafe motions is a little out of date but here is what I learned a few years ago about their equipment. The standards they were using were the old Radio Shack type standards of the 1980s. The equipment was really substandard and I was told that the motions were actually not PIR motion sensors. When we went to ISC and researched where they were purchasing their sensors, it was the extremely low budget sensors from China. You may "simply" have budget equipment.

I’ve got a IQ2 + installed in a cell phone kiosk. 2 brand new interlogix motions on either side of the kiosk about 3ft off the ground, about 6” underneath the counter tops. Kept on getting false alarm on the cash motion. So I moved it down another 3”. I’m not having any problems with the other motion. Again, the motion went off. So I deleted it from programming and turn on the panel motion and panel glass break. Then again, 2days later and false alarm on the panel glass break and panel motion was activated!!! Checked the video and no one is around. Security checked their cameras and no one around. Keep in mind that there’s another motion only 3ft away and it has never falsed. When customers comes back to disarm the alarm. The other motion is registering their movements. I was leaning towards a faulty motion, but I had deleted that motion and now the panel motion and Glassbreak activated. something weird is going on. Like you l, I’ve been doing this for 20+ years. So currently, now I have the motion deleted as well as the panel motion and Glassbreak. Customer is not happy. He cancelled the last company because of false alarms. They had the motions on the floor practically and still getting false alarms. I figured because they were using microwave motions which would be dumb. Any suggestions other big rats 🐀 lol.

There have been a couple series of Interlogix motions that had a LOT of false alarms. You may want to put a tilt sensor on the cash box.

Can low batteries in the sensor cause a false alarm and what does build up heat do as well?
@SecurityAllStar3 жыл бұрын
Yes, we are seeing instances where low battery is triggering alarms.

Can turning a light on or off cause false alarms?
@SecurityAllStar3 жыл бұрын
Yes, but not because of the light itself unless you are triggering a system with cameras. Motion sensors can be triggered is a hi-voltage halogen or commercial light turns on in front of a close view of a motion sensor and heats up quickly. We just walked through that with a customer last week. We had them lower the motion sensors below the base of their commercial lights.

Is any well installed motion sensor ever triggered by ghosts or other paranormal activity creating false alarms?
@SecurityAllStar4 жыл бұрын
I can only say that there are unexplained instances where PIR motion sensors go off and never repeat the problem. How likely the paranormal is to affect them would only be a guess.
