It looks like you do have a little while to pick a herb after another player picks it. So I think it's also probably a good idea to take note if you see someone dive towards a node.

i was wondering why I was ending up picking nothing but hoche mama blume. I see many picking my plants a LOT, so hiding it won't help you now. I refuse to buy it either, I noticed I need hochenblume for tailoring, but never buy it on AH, they jacked up price for EVERYTHING in there.

I hate all the idiots who only pick the good things. They expect someone else to get all the hochenblume/serevite. But i find that if you gather long enough on the same shard, the people who only go for the good stuff will give up and leave.
