#GMBN Thank you Neil for working on this video. I've always put about 25 PSI in my tires for ever. Even with tubeless set up. I've always wondered if I was doing it correctly as I see so many talking about lower pressures. I feel much more confident riding higher PSI because of your information. Rock on Neil!!
@mtbboy19936 жыл бұрын
7:26 its low densityi foam, so it's very firm, I was able to drop 4 psi, also changed my suspension setup, I dropped 20psi, I had to run harsher setup to not bottom out, I had stock spacer in which was big, but after installing Cush core the setup was much better did not need volume spacers n my fork or shock. I noticed increased grip and less tyre fold, so cornering was improved. I did not mind the weight.
@JDoors6 жыл бұрын
You touched on it, but an aggressive tread a) can take thorns and such into the tread lugs without breaking into the pressurized part of the tire, and b) the lugs lift the pressurized part of the tire out of harms way of sharp objects (up to a point, of course). I switched from more-or-less flat treads to an aggressively lugged tread and, crossing fingers, have dramatically fewer punctures.

Having bought my first MTB in 8 years, (Canyon Spectral CF 9.0 LTD), I'd like to see a video on how to build stamina up again, unless its a simply a case of cycling more often. I lasted 30 minutes on my first ride in 8 years, my legs were absolutely gone! Loving these GMBN videos, really helping with a novice like me!

CushCore has been working great for me. I do notice the extra rolling resistance. But I also notice the much improved handling. The reduction in tire-roll makes me feel much more secure when cornering hard.

Everything covered I think. Checking tyre pressure and adjusting for the trail is no.1 as most of us get lazy. I am tubeless on one bike with good Maxxis tyres but the sealant leaks through the side walls. It has put me off going tubeless on my other bikes.
@SusiBiker6 жыл бұрын
Electrical tape is a hand emergency fix, but I remember using it as a kid (because my parents could not afford a new wheel tape - we were that poor), I found that after several weeks of riding, the edges of the tape would actually cut into the tube and puncture it. The same goes for those 'stuffers' that you get that are supposed to protect you from punctures in the tread - no matter how you cut them (I chamfered the ends an flame-smoothed them) they will also eventually puncture a tube.
@z33tanner6 жыл бұрын
I run very thin Kenda small block 8's as i ride cross country and tire liners/strips have made my tubes last almost 10 times as long as they did before i almost never get flats now. Better than running heavy tires 👍
@adanielweaver5 жыл бұрын
Love cushcore even though I've never flatted with tubeless on my MTB (and only once on my gravel bike). For me it's about running low pressures, like 18/20 without having tire squirm when I push into it in corners etc. Flat protection is just a side benefit
@MsDenver23 жыл бұрын
Something I do is use black shoes polish on the tyre wall this helps to protect the side wall from damage as it’s waxy so slips off anything hitting the side wall , it not perfect but will help the side wall not crack aswell . But do not get it on your tread or you might aswell put oil on.. I use a little brush works best and it’s cheap.

I run tubeless on a hardtail cross country Bike. Got a light tire in the front, bit heavier in the back. Hutchinson Cobra 2.10 in the front about 600Gr. Hutchinson Python 2 2.10 In the back about 700Gr.. Both around 2 Bar with Hutchinson protect air max sealant. So far, no punctures but i am not going too hard on the bike. Imo it's more about riding style and terrain at first.
@Pillokun6 жыл бұрын
I used to ride tubeless back in the days when pretty much only Mavic offered that option with its UST. It was awesome and you did not need any sealant. But it was so hard to get to mount the tire on the rim. And after a while my rear rim started to leak at the valve hole. I could probably have used a sealant but I did not wanted to, so I scrapped the tubeless idea altogether :P

It's not really 6 layers of 360 tpi and 4 layers of 240 tpi. Continental (and some other brands, basically anyone stating over 130 tpi) is adding up the threads per inch over all layers. So in reality you have 6 layers plus 4 layers of 60 tpi each. Most downhill tires have 60 tpi, because in general with 120 tpi you have thinner threads and less rubber in the construction, which makes the tire less stiff and roll faster, but it's also less stable. And since rolling resistance is negligible for downhill and stability is key, 60 tpi is the way to go for most of these tires.

(Der Baron Projekt 29x2,4 & Mountain King 29x2,3 or Trail King 2,4 & X-King 2,4) Never got a flat in two years (well, except for burping the rear once in snow at 1,1 when I was trying to find out how low I can go with the pressure in snowy conditions), including 14 days of riding trails in the Italian Alps recently. And I also never dented the any rims... In the Winter I was riding Hans Dampf 2,35 front and rear for show riding and I went as low as 1,2 bar front and 1,4 rear... But, the snow smoothes the trails out quite a bit...
