Thank you Pappy for bringing this issue to my attention, I have recently bought a 2007 Ducato Swift Motorhome and it has the water build up issue in injector valley, I now cover engine with plastic sheeting when parked up and have also reseal wind screen bottom seal and used silicon on gutter under bonnet. Sorry to hear of your costly repair bill, hopefully this issue can be resolved on later models in the future. Thank you again from New Zealand.

Just found your channel and i went outside and checked our motorhome found water and some rust on the injectors so dried it and sealed the scuttle - really grateful that you took the time to do this video thanks very much indeed

How exactly did you seal the scutter?

@ All i did was seal round the top of the plastic scuttle against the windscreen with wide plastic tape similar to electrical tape. The reason i didn’t do anything more permanent is because if you need the windscreen replaced I think you can have issues with the windscreen people like national windscreens or RAC refusing to replace the screen due to you causing them more work and time to replace it.

@@SF-ei8df I don't know if that is true or not. As long as I pay them they should be happy for the extra work lol. I taped up mine, and I prefer this solution myself. It's easy to monitor and even redo. But, I have tried two different tapes by now and I just can't get a nice result. The tape is bubbly and comes off easily lol.

Another problem with scuttle drains is the drain on the passenger side,it drains straight onto the gear box linkage.If your gear change is becoming stiff and "clunking" a large dollop of grease solves the problem snd protects the linkage.

Just rebuilded the engine in our 2008 ducato motorhome due to the water goin through injector 😡🤬 also had a electric issue due to the water goin into the fuse box. Whoever designed this deserves a massive slap

Apparently the bulk of water comes through the windscreen seal which is useless. Buy some black windscreen sealant and fill it up. You will sea that the rubber moves when you push it . This is not the case with other W/S seals.

Thanks for posting this. I just brought a 2017 Ducato and noticed the water sitting in the injectors after heavy rain yesterday.

and do you know you can buy cover for motor original from fiat? and this problem solved? :D its in catalog but many people dont buy this with car

Hi from down under in AUS, I too had some problem with my 2012 Ducato motorhome . The water was running down the windscreen and behind the bezel at base of windscreen. The seal on back of bezel was totally ineffective .. My leak caused water to soak down past the injectors and they had become corroded into the cylinder head, resulting in a NEW head and injectors plus all ancillary parts at a huge cost (many,many thousands of AU$).

Really thanks for that very informative video Pappy. I just checked my 2021 and took off the cover. 2 issues found. Blocked middle water outlet pipe from scuttle down to drivers side wheel hub exit. Got that sorted but then noticed lots of water getting in behind scuttle and windscreen and also wiper spindle. Cleaned and removed the rust and soaked injector area and all the electrical connections with ACF50. Did a temp sealing of the scuttle with a heavy layer of Vaseline and that stopped anymore ingress. Will remove it and do a proper sealing later. Fiat are a disgrace to keep producing Ducato's with this known issue as it can end up costing people thousands in hefty repair bills. Once again thanks from Ireland 👍

Did you eventually seal more permanently, and how? What did you do about the windshield wiper arm sockets?

@@themartinandersson I didn't seal anymore. I bought a windscreen cover on Amazon that covers the entire bonnet as well and I put this on when parked up. I never had any more water issues or any blockages from leaves and other debris getting in to the drains. Just make sure to get one that covers down over the top of the bonnet and that does the trick.

@@TheVideoviwer Do you have a link for the one you bought? Doesn't water penetrate behind the cover, I mean it can not possibly be 100% sealed against the car, right?

That oval drain connector above the oil filler is impossible to seal, but it needs to be.

Great video and explanation. However this also can happen to Vauxhall Vivaro and Ford Transit even with a cover over the injector / glow plugs. The biggest area of weakness in all these vans is water coming through the scuttle plate at the bottom of the windscreen. Take it off clean out the drains, and remove any rust from under the scuttle plate and reseal with a good quality sealant. Then, if you can get to the injector heads and glow plugs spray them with WD 40 for water dispersant.

Vauxhall Vivaro has the same problem because the scuttle strip leaks, this can be a quick fix but if you have bought a secondhand one the damage is already done. This happens even with the cover over the injectors and glow plugs.

This has been an ongoing problem with this van since the first van came off the production line in 2007.. absolutely disgraceful that they have not improved the design in 15 years of Production..Its obvious that they don't give a toss about Quality Control. Shame on them. 😡

Probably because the base unit is designed for commercial use, so expected to be used frequently avoiding a buildup of water due to evaporation. Poor designing nevertheless.

I invested in an aerosol can of copper slip UHT grease and sprayed around the bases of the injectors

Do you still recommend this method of protection after 10months? It appears mine are fine but just thinking of preventative steps

@@ianross04I no longer own that particular motorhome but if I did, having invested in a 400 ml can of copper slip grease I would continue to spray around the base of the injectors at least once a year. If the injectors are corroded you will have problems potentially trying to remove them in the event of a problem.

mine never had a cover and my rain water drainage pipe got blocked and the head was under water, i have problem starting it on and off and when it gets wet my electrics go bonkers and wont start at all, i have to get something to soak up the water before i can start it and stop my electrics going crazy, a couple injectors are getting rusty. i'm gonna try and get them out clean and do what ever i can with limited tools and numpty thinking and hope its more reliable at starting

With engine cold and in store outside stop water getting on injectors by using dustbin bag over engine,bags are waterproof just remember to remove when engine in use cheap problem solved ,bad design by manufacturer

Just bought a Swift Suntor, Fiat Ducato 2002. A week after buying it and doing 200 miles, it now doesn’t start. The engine is covered in rust, especially where injectors are. I have sprayed the whole bay with WD40, tried everything I can to start it, but no, it doesn’t want to go for a drive😀🥹 with some Googling I eventually hit on the rain ingress, now am thinking “buyer beware” and looks like am facing a heavy bill as well. Camper van has done 45000 miles since new, average of 2500 miles per year, so sitting doing nothing as you say, seems to be the problem!!!

Sorry to hear your problems. Karl said he takes our cover off when he services it, but as you say, not everyone does. Hope the bill isn't too extortionate but from what Karl just said, it's going to be quite expensive.

Have an 08 Ducato. Will have a Luke in the morning. You’ll have to bring it to Ireland 🇮🇪 when you get her back. The avtex has meg4 I hope for Soarview digital terrestrial TV . Gas and diesel is the same and drives on the left. So come on over. Night boat on a wed does be cheapest.
