I'm trying to get to the heater core on my 2006 Chevy Equinox. do you happen to have a video on it? I've looked and I may be over looking it..

I have dodge trucks and have been doing this for 15 years. I fill the core with clr, let sit for an hour and then flush it with plain water. Works every time. I can't wait to hear why i shouldn't be doing this😂😂. Cheers!
@one7decimal2eight3 жыл бұрын
Do not do it like this. Old Heater cores get brittle where the hoses attach. If you bust off one of those metal nipples then you will need to replace the whole core which involves dash removal. Disconnect the hoses further down and flush from there. You've been warned.

That is why I said just go ahead and change the heater core. It is a long process; but, it is not that hard to do. Just a lot of disassembly and reassembly. 👈🏿. YOU MUST BE A PATIENT GRASSHOPPER. YOU CAN PAY $700 TO $1800 TO GET IT DONE YOURSELF.
@lukehelpmetakethisdangmaskoff2 жыл бұрын
Actually, the dash is not involved. On that particular model of Chevy/GMC the core is accessed from the lower footwell and involves 6 easily accessible screws and removal of the plastic core cover. It takes about 10 minutes. My mechanic said the same thing about dash removal and lots of $ which prompted me to look it up on youtube. I was very relieved to see that it is an easy job! The core is cheap too!

Here's a trick I did. I put flush in the system then I reversed the hoses on the input and output to the heater core to get the reverse flow through it. Then drove it till I had about 6 hour's running time on it which was the longer option suggested on the Prestone Flush bottle. I think it worked well but I won't know till winter for sure. It's summer now, hard to tell how the heater will actually work when it's cold. Anyway, thought it was a neat trick, super easy and super low labor to get the reverse flow through the heater core. Hope this helps someone.

Only way I can move the sediment in BMW heater cores is by pulsing with air and water, water flushing alone often does not work. Drain coolant (not all just under the level of the heater core pipes) and disconnect the two heater core pipes from the engine and expansion tank. Wrap some gaffa (duct) tape around the tip of a typical blower so you can create a seal on either of the two plastic hose connectors, fill the heater core pipes with water from a hose and quickly use the blower to push the water through. You'll usually get a load of sandy coloured water coming out, understand this sand is from the mold when the block is originally cast which has broken loose inside the cooling system. Flush both ways using air and water until it runs clear, then run water through to get the final bits out. Reconnect pipes, refill cooling system and bleed. Enjoy your now toasty heating at last :D

Isn’t a regular garden hose already 5/8”? If so then no adapter needed if you cut up an old hose or cheap one. the female on the old/cheap hose goes on the male garden hose supplying water. Other half can be the outflow. Just a thought.

If the heater core is clogged resulting in poor circulation of coolant back to the water pump will this cause engine overheat? I have done the thermostat and the car produces heat sometimes. Piping hot in and cold empty line out.
@OffGridInvestor5 жыл бұрын
Generally there's not enough heat moved by the heater core to cause the engine to overheat with it ALONE. Because you have it switched off during summer. Sounds more like sludge blocking the tubes in your radiator. You can buy a coolant flush but sometimes it will make zero difference to the radiator because the tubes in the core are so thin. The heater CAN BE turned on full blast to help stop a car from overheating. Old trick us Australians use.

I'm fairly certain I'm at least looking at something related to the cooling/heating system cuz 1 of the tubes has a little outlet w/ a cap & tag around it that says (WARNING! Do not operate vehicle while system is under pressure! ACTION required, release vacuum) I opened this cap & found what looked like a tire valve stem pressure releaser inside....I pressed on it lightly to discover it had a TON of pressure behind it.... I'm new to heating/cooling system maintenance on any vehicle so I immediately stopped releasing pressure in case this wasn't something I should've done.... can you shed any light for me as to what I'm looking at? & how would I go about completing this same process in her avenger? If I'm leaving any helpful info out plz just ask & I'll do my best to give you any other useful details on what I'm dealing with or looking at...any help you could offer me would be extremely appreciated.... I've opened the bleeder valve and coolant comes out right away, no bubbles from it or air. Is there a 2nd bleeder I'm unaware of? I'm going nuts with this issue. Everything topped off and not a head/intake gasket issue. Help! Lol live in Iowa and winter is here!

You don't need those clamps you would maybe lose a cup of antifreeze by not using them if that

I’ve never had to replace one before. Does the radiator usually run just a little hot ( like just a tick above 210) if the heater core is bad?

What about venting the heater core? Wouldn’t the trapped air cause heating issues?

Why am I leaking coolant now? Is it a bad heater core?
@MerkinMuffly6 жыл бұрын
I did several flushes on my 98 camry, went around with water in it for about a month. When I put coolant in it, it started leaking from water pump. Any advice?
@1AAuto5 жыл бұрын
+MerkinMuffly It was probably leaking with water in the system, just the water was evaporating before you would see it on the ground. If the water pump or seal around it is leaking. You should replace the water pump.

@villafontananorte6 жыл бұрын
No. Honda requires a especial type of coolant. Read your manual. You can buy supertech coolant that meets Honda standard at Walmart for $8 a gallon.

When doing this job on my car is there a certain type of pump I need and certain power you recommend so it won’t over power my heater core? And if there is sludge buildup will CLR clear it out, if so do I do a follow up with distilled water to clear out the CLR once it has done its job?
