when i download smart switch on windows and try to run it, it says "the application has failed to start because its side by side configuration is incorrect. Please use application event log or use command line." anyone know why it wont let me download smart switch?

Stephen Vincent I forgot what the solution was but i remember it was fairly simple .. I found it on Google, search the error on there and Dr Google will tell you exactly what you need to do lol.

I just did it and it worked perfectly. AND it also allowed me to update android to 8.0.0 which the note 8 wouldn't do.

how would you restore it though. on new phones it would want to restore from cloud accounts, so would you skip that and not sign into any google or samsung accounts, then restore the phone using the backup, then sign into google and samsung?

Hi TechnoGenuine, I tried to connect my phone via USB to my PC through the Smart Switch app and it wasn't working. I clicked on "reinstall device driver" and re-started my computer and it still wasn't working when I connected my phone to my PC via USB. Is there anything else I should do to fix the problem? If I transfer my photos, will the date be the same as on the phone or will it be changed ?

The date of access will change, but if you're using windows, the image metadata is not changed. you will still have the original date the image was created.

smart switch is so fucking awful. It will not allow you to back up your phone unless its a USB C from Samsung.

Really? It worked fine with my cheap USB-C cable for S8 and Note 9
