I have a question, if I did a backup a month ago and it saved 10gb of data from my MacBook and now, a month later I have another 10gb of new data on my Mac making 20gb altogether, when I click "backup", does it only backup the new 10gb on the already backed up 10gb to make 20gb of used space on the external drive or it will save an entire 20gb on the already saved 10gb to make a total 30gb used space on the external drive? And do I have to format the external drive each time I want to do a backup? By the way, how do I just retrieve that one file/folder that I mistakingly deleted last week? I know you understand what I mean. Can anyone answer this question?

When I plug in the Seagate hard drive, it asks me to install Toolkit, and all these other things & I'm not sure if they're trying to sell me extras or if it's all necessary. Really wish I could find a video on here which actually goes over everything - for those of us who didn't come out of the womb being computer savvy.

I have a 2011 iMac. It started acting like possible HD problems where looming so I connected and backed up to a 2 TB Seagate Backup Plus Drive just in case one day it would fail before I got a newer Mac. I leave it connected and set for automatic backups. I have 1.73 GB of free space available on my 2 TB Seagate as we speak. Fast forward about 4 months....I just bought a 2017 refurb iMac from Apple.com and picked it up today from my local Apple Store. My question is, would I leave the Seagate connected to my old iMac while using Migration Assistant while transferring the data to my newer iMac? My 2011 iMac was my very first Mac so I haven't transferred data from one Mac to another before. Actually it just seems like I could plug the Seagate into the new Mac and transfer like that but not sure if preferences and so forth would be properly transferred. The IT guy at work said use migration assistant but I failed to ask about the fact of leaving the Seagate constantly connected. Any words of wisdom? Thanks for taking the time to produce this video:)

Don’t waste your time with the external hard drive. I purchased the WD Mac compatible external hard drive. I backed up all my file on my 2013 iMac. Now I have a new iMac a 2022 M1 iMac. And when I plugged in the external hard drive ito bring up my files from my old Mac, nothing was able to open. The files are all there but nothing opens. No pictures no programs, nothing. You get an X symbol crossed out on the items you want to view. Those external backup drives for the macs are garbage if you get a new machine. They only work on the previous old computer OS you had. What good is that? Now my windows external drive works fine even when using it on new computers. Macs are good computers but once they update those OS systems you are done. So now I’m stuck with an external hard drive that is useless on my new PC when I want to view older files. They push you to buy these things and they know it’ll be useless later down the line.

@thomaskerrigan3244

Justin Winslow it should ask you if you want to erase the drive if it is not formatted properly . If it doesn’t, go to your disk utility, select your drive, click erase, and click on Mac OS Extended (Journaled). I assume you probably already found a solution, but just Incase anyone else has the same question there’s the answer.

While this was a pretty simple process, and yes, I can slow down the voice speed, it's not very user friendly when you are talking 100 mph. Not everyone learns and is tech friendly as u or maybe others who have tons of experience. BC those with experience, don't need to watch these videos. They know it all lol. But videos like this are for ppl who want to learn. So it would help if u just slow down a notch. Not saying slow motion but just a bit slower so ppl with less experience can understand better.

I've had three macs now and I haven't had one crash on me yet and I use my pretty heavily being a KZbinr. Constantly downloading files onto and off of the computer, fan constantly going and just plain beating the crap out of it. Maybe I'm a lucky one. Although, it could be a bad hard drive. If yours is a mechanical hard drive, that could be the issue. They aren't nearly as reliable. Although, if you have a solid state, it might just be a bad drive. Everyone has different experiences and I hope yours brightens up soon! Take care.
