What do I do when they’re baiting too because they are waiting for me to go for the slap? Also sometimes they manage to get right close to me while jumping back and forth and they manage to hit me first. What do I do? I can’t even get a single kill.

click while you are a comfortable distance away from the opponent, then immediately walk backwards. the missed click is usually seen as a whiffed slap and they will try to walk towards you to punish you for the mistake, but since you're walking backwards as well, they'll miss their slap, allowing you to slap them instead
