Isnt no3 a polyatomic ion so it should be written as no3-2 rather n and o??
@wbreslyn
@wbreslyn 2 жыл бұрын
NO3 1- is the nitrate polyatomic ion, yes. But here when we write it in Pb(NO3)2 the Pb is 2+ and each Nitrate ion is 1-. That way the charges balance.

@Miguel-jn5bi
@Miguel-jn5bi 5 жыл бұрын
Ok I have an almost identical problem. The only difference is the NO on the right hand side. You have NO2 my problem only reads as NO, without the subscript of 2. So it reads Pb (NO3)2 ---> PbO + NO + O2 If I balance the Oxygen I unbalance the nitrogens, and vise versa. Any tips on how to get out of this trap? Thanks.
@wbreslyn
@wbreslyn 5 жыл бұрын
What makes this one difficult to balance is that the Oxygen atoms are spread out across three compounds on the product side. I don't have a video for this one but take a look at this: www.webqc.org/balance.php?reaction=Pb%28NO3%292%3DPbO%2BNO%2BO2 and work backwards. Let me know if you get stuck... --- Dr. B
