Is there a maximum recommended speed at which the tabs can be deployed? For example, it is recommended to not use the tabs above x MPH.

I've used it at about 15 to 20mph. Works pretty very well. But careful doing large adjustments at speed, it can throw the boat off your line.

Why not use ballast to level boat instead of tabs.

I've tried. No need for balancing with ballast. Maybe the center bow if you need more weight up front other than that use the tabs.
