Oh, to be young with good knees! LOL! I wish I could sandwich a quilt this way, but those days are gone. Doesn't matter because I don't have floor space to do one this big anyway. So in pieces and on table top it shall be. Love your enthusiasm about this process which, I confess, is my least favorite part of quilting.
@sandycrawford14693 жыл бұрын
I do quilt as you go cover up method. I quilt 3 sections of the quilt separately (smaller version to baste spray) and then join the 3 sections. I then have 3 seams to cover up on the back using the same fabric as the backing. Before learning this method I avoided making large quilts, now it's very doable.

Oh my goodness....I think your video just changed my life! I just tried your method - no tape, just a hard floor and basting spray. My basted quilt looks just like it's supposed to, and...uhm, this is my first real quilt. I'm so excited to start quilting it now.

I am about to quilt for the first time and have been pretty worried about the basting process - until I found your video that is! I already have the same brand of basting spray, but have been pretty afraid of sandwiching a queen size quilt on my floor. All of the other videos I was finding were for little quilts which seemed a whole lot less intimidating! Thank you for making it seem much simpler than I was thinking!

Congratulations on another babe! Your basting calisthenics is good exercise. I just used fusible batting for the first time on my first grandbaby's quilt. Very similar technique but needed to do on ironing board since fusible gets water misted then heat activated. I have trouble with getting all three layers perfectly square so I allow extra batting and backing to allow for my ineptness. Good luck as your pregnancy continues! Thanks for the videos!

This is reminding me of the first quilt I made as a bride away from my mom. Putting a quilt in the frame by my self. First you stitch the lining (backing) onto the sides of the frame, then lash the ends in to give a taut stretch,right side down. Spread on the batting, then spread on te top. Pin the bat and top down one side keeping the layers taut as you go. You will make adjustments as you go when you are pining the other side down. This is easily done with a second person because you pull against each other as you go. Then you pin the ends of the quilt on top of the backing. Now you are tired and need a rest! Now you set the corners of the quilt frame up onto the back of 4 chairs or stands. Ready for hand quilting or safety pin baste the sandwich together or big stitch baste & remove from the frame so you can quilt on the sewing machine.

Hint - When I do this- I put my batting down, roll the backing and I spray as I unroll the backing over the batting - flip it over and repeat the same with the top. The rolling helps me keep the wrinkles out? (I usually make my husband help, one unrolls while the other sprays, but the rolling is what makes it easier)

When I do this the backing is always straight and no puckers until I add the top layer and then the back gets wrinkled and puckers. It is so frustrating. I like the basting spray because it doesn't get in the way when you actually start quilting, but dealing with the basting spray is very frustrating.
