Thank you Julie, complete beginner here. Just cut all my fabric with a fandangled template into little hexagons (with 0.25" seam) I bought with a kit and didn't realise I could've left the fabric as just little squares 🤦‍♀️ (which look easier to sew too). Anyway thanks for teaching me how to stitch them, definitely going to watch more of your vids. Thanks again! 🙏🥰

Hi Michelle. I am glad you found this video of some use. I can't even imaging cutting fabric into hexagons. I am sure you will need more fabric cut in the future and you will be able to cut it into squares which actually gives you a bigger margin I think. All the best.

Thank you for sharing another informative video Julie, you are an inspiration to me! I’ve been busy doing several things at a time lately and have put off covering my hexagon’s that I cut out the other day because of being too tired, your video has given me that nudge that I needed to start. All the best with your studies, I appreciate you.

Thank you Debbie for the comment. There is no need to rush covering the hexagons as they will still be there when you are ready to do them and there is no time limit on making a quilt. I will reply to your email tonight. Thanks

I really enjoyed the chat. I love your mouse pin cushion. I only got 7 hexes done but I had to hold my cat for a while.

Thank you very much for the comment and I also think the pin cushions are very cute. Cat holding is a requirement for quilting I think.

Great tutorial Julie. Sounds like you're super busy, with all the studying and writing. I'm a bit like that, with several things on the go, although I'm not actually sewing at the moment.

Thank you very much for the comment. I will cover the rest of those red hexagons today and won't sew anything else until I sew some blocks together next Sunday and then I think I will be done with sewing videos until I can get more fabric.

Wow, that looks like a lot of work! However , I really like what appears to be consistency, and of course the tops you do are so beautiful! You make it look easy, but I don't think it's so easy! Well maybe it is easy for you the EXPERT!

Thank you so much Nonya for both these comments. I am far from expert in EPP as I only do hexagons and not all the other shapes that are available out there but I will gratefully accept your compliments. They are actually quite easy to do but you have to do a LOT of them to make a quilt so patience is needed more than expertise.

@@juliethornton Consistancy!! It's not in me to not want to change! It takes repetition for me to learn anything, but I get bored to quick to become as diligent and consistent as you are! And that is a compliment! You are a fabric artist! And I love to see the pictures you do with hexagons! And then you have all these other talents! And you are not a boastful human you can sound gruff but I think you are a very grounded human, you do what you believe and you don't concern yourself with what everybody else thinks! That's just my opinion! I love your stamina, and you being you! And it's in my heart to be for you and let you know that you are special!

Thank you very much for these further compliments. It is unfortunate that you get bored quickly as hand quilting definitely is a slow process and takes a lot of patience. Perhaps sowing things together by hand is a better option for you as I don't tend to do that often as it is too quick for me.

Hi Julie! Thank you for all of your super helpful videos about EPP! I am working on finishing a hexie flower quilt for my Mom for Christmas and your videos have really helped me throughout the process. I was curious about if/how you wash your quilts when they’re finished. I’m worried about washing since it’s all hand sewn. Any advice would be much appreciated!

Hi Ashley. Thank you for the great comment. Obviously it will depend on the size of the quilt as to how to wash it. I have done up to a double bed size one in a large normal washing machine on the gentlest cycle it has with no problems. My larger quilts have actually never been washed as I refuse to use them until I have no cats as they would need to either be washed by hand in the bath or sent to the dry cleaners for washing. The quilt I made far a friend's mother has been kept clean due to it being too big for their machine. I also don't wash the fabric before sewing as I figure that if it is going to shrink then it can all shrink together when it is made.

@@juliethornton Thank you for the info! It’s a lap quilt so I think it will do fine in the washing machine. I will probably do gentle cycle to be safe. I know what you mean about cats, that is the biggest reason I was wanting to wash this. No telling how many cat hairs are sewn into it! 😅

No problem Ashley, my whole life is covered in cat hairs and they are constantly lying on whatever quilt I am making.
