Will this rename the actual files or is this similar to lightroom where the rename is localized to the program? I have about a terabyte of pictures from a number of years traveling and would like to have them named by date so I can work through them sequentially. Is it possible to do this in MacOs itself? I would like the rename to be done to the source files, rather than just local inside a program. I hope that all makes sense. Thank you for your help and work!

Recently updated bridge and now when I open the rename screen it no longer opens with the first text box ready to type. I have to navigate to that with my mouse. It's throwing my whole renaming workflow off. Any ideas on how to open the rename box so I can immediately rename the text of the photos I've selected. Thanks in advance, Web Guru!

Thanks for this, but what I need is a way to add sequence numbers BEFORE file names in Bridge. (I can do it with the Finder only.) I can't find anything about how to do that. Any suggestions? Thank you.

@A Cerbino You can do this in Bridge. The FIRST field needs to be set to Sequence Number.

@Juan that might be tricky because the files have already been renamed. Bridge won't remember their old names.

From Bridge 2021 onwards, you get ACR files. This Rename feature does not seem to rename them. Is there a workaround?

Yes and no. For the example using time, there was a metadata option you really should have shown. I have a problem, Bridge isn't showing time with enough precision to show whether a series might have been a burst. I thing renaming might be a crude but effective workaround. I want the time of capture that's in the metadata, not the file creation time which can be very different.

Thanks for your video confirming that Adobe Bridge still uses the same type of process to batch rename files as 10 years ago. It is THE BEST batch renaming program, and I was worried that with Adobe's changes to its programs, it may have ruined this.

What about renaming and making images lose spaces and gain hyphens? like changing "Band - album - Year - whatever095646.jpg" to "band-album-year-whatever.jpg" ?
