Oh, girl, I clicked so fast! If anyone needs tips on how to be calm when they are at their breaking point, it's me! My mom was a yeller. My dad was a spanker. I really really do not want to parent like my parents

Oh hon - it's so crazy isn't it thinking back to how we were raised with spanking just being totally acceptable and normal. I was thinking so much about it this week; I think that's why bullying was so rife as well in schools and things. Hope you like these tips - not just for parents really! xxxxx

my mom was both my mom and my dad so she was a yeller AND a spanker. i have a 4 year old and sometimes find it so hard to not fall into the same habits. with a little guidance you/we can change the pattern!

I’m only 19 but your videos are great. Being a calm parent is so important and will make a huge impact on the child. My dad gets angry very easily and he yells a lot, it affected me for a long time and it make me very depressed. Now I’m much calmer and happier, but again having a calm mindset is so important for your child because it could possibly affect their parenting style when they grow up.

I’m having my first baby in December, and I love educating myself now on parenting. I’m hoping if I just keep relearning it throughout the years, the information will stick to my daily life. Also hoping that my kids will become even better parents than I am. ♥️

Ah yes that’s such a lovely thought; I’d love my kids to one day say they had a really lovey Mum. It would be amazing to have given them that xxxxxxx

I find that if my son, whose 9, is cranky and sulky, I can quickly find my mood going the same way. He and his sister whose 5, have been dreadful for bickering and it's a real trigger for me losing my calm. Love the phrase, put yourself in their little shoes ❤️

Really helpful video, found all the points useful, especially number 3, multi tasking me time and number 4. It reminds me of the Daniel Tiger count to four rhyme! My youngest daughter has taken to the ‘terrible twos’ with gusto so will be taking these on board!

Congratulations on the sponsorship SJ!! You deserve it! I’ve been watching your videos since I was pregnant with my daughter and was desperately searching for a name for her and now watch all your videos (I still even watch the baby name ones!) Appreciate the suggestion on here of asking for help - why do we find it so hard?! I will literally struggle alone and get cross and it rarely occurs to me to simply ask others. Will try this going forward - thank you for the reminder! 💕💕💕💕💕💕

Oh I’m so glad it’s not just me!! I actually had my first ever therapy session before lockdown just to try it and it was the biggest thing she said to me through the conversation - that I seem to not accept help & I should ask for it xxxx

Lovely tips SJ. It is all about mindfulness for me - if I start the day with gratitude for at least one small thing and remind myself to act with love rather than fear throughout the day I can interrupt moments when I might feel overwhelmed with mess or anxious about how I'm dealing with a tantrum and I ask myself what would love do. It allows me to step back from the moment and have compassion for the kids and my hubby and myself in whatever situation we're in. Even if one of them has a tantrum and I honestly don't know whether what I'm doing in that moment is right, what I do choose to do (whether it's speaking kind words, firmly and softly, reaffirming boundaries with them or comforting and cuddling one of them whatever the circumstances) I know I have come from love and it usually helps them to feel heard and the situation calms down pretty quickly. It sounds so simple but it really takes a lot of self-awareness and mindfulness from the parent I believe, which is why it's so tough. But it goes hand in hand with my wellness and spiritual practice as well and I have also worked on a little bit of inner child work for myself too to help support my relationships with my own children. It's fascinating to delve into. Sorry for the ramble! I love this subject. Thanks so much for sharing your tips SJ - it's sooooo helpful 💓 😃 🙏 Xxx

I also don’t enjoy being the phrase “me time”...like surely I’m me all the time?! But now I realise that I also multitask me time...good podcast while cleaning, finding “sites of mutual fulfilment” where the children are happy and I can lie on the grass/sand/sofa 😂

My favourite kind of videos from you, SJ. You exude calmness! Do you listen to the Motherkind podcast, by the way? If not, you might enjoy. Although Janet Lansbury’s is my favourite. I’ve basically found an episode discussing every parenting issue I’ve ever had! 🤣👏🏻 Great advice, as always x
