These people live among us and most are boring regular people in boring regular jobs. Psychopathy sits on the far end of the pathological narcissism spectrum, but all the cluster b personalities sit somewhere on it and they all have no true identity or real self. Narcissists have emotions but they are all for themselves and self focused, whereas psyhopaths just have no emotionas for themselves either.

American Psycho, sandwich edition: ------ "My name is Patrick Bateman. I'm 27 years old. I believe in taking care of my sandwiches. With balanced meat and salad proportions. In the morning, if my bread is a little puffy, I'll put some water on it, and then toast it. Only for a minute. After I remove the bread from the toaster, I prepare the fillings. For the butter, I use a luxurious no fat Beurre de Luxe golden butter. Then, three types of luxury smoked ham slices. And for the salad, lettuce, tomato and olives dressed in Cherry Pepper Relish. Then I apply a no fat golden olive oil to the other slice of the bread, which I leave on for 5 minutes to prepare the rest of my lunch. I always pack chips, with little to no salt, cause salt is unhealthy and makes you contract deadly diseases. Then an apple. Then Nature Valley Crunchy Granola Bars, followed by a bottle spring water from the purest of rivers. There is an idea of a perfect sandwich, some kind of sensation. But there is no real sandwich, only a taste, something blissful. And though, they may appear luxurious, and feel their crunchiness as you feel the taste hitting your tongue and maybe you can even sense are sandwiches are probably comparable, it's simply just a sandwich."

The realtor DID know who he was cause she cleaned up the place in order to sell it. It's NY man. You Really should read the book, it goes further into his monologues about clothes, food, wall st, health, etc - totally hilarious! I feel like the director went over the top near the end to make you wonder, but in the novel he does kill a lot of people, confesses, is ignored by the lawyer and his cronies and is not found out or punished.

Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. The song, In Too Deep, is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock. Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight, Land of Confusion, and Against All Odds. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. This is Sussudio, a great, great song, a personal favorite.

The director, writer, everyone involved did not intend for the view to think that it might be a delusion. He 100% did all the killing. But yeah the way they cut it, especially the hand gun blowing up everything, the ATM saying "feed me a cat" (which he was somehow able to do...you won't actually be able to shove a cat into a ATM...i don't think, I haven't tried) and the final realtor scene did strongly lend itself to that impression and it's weird that they supposedly didn't see that....🤔

The cop car and cat scene were delusions along with the helicopter and killing the guy at the desk. That was part of a manic episode. He did the killings but probably not the way we see all of them at least. Like the chainsaw was definitely him romanticizing the killings and probably performed them in a much more routine way.

A lot of people fall into the trap of being overly literal in their analysis and focusing on the "did he really do the murders or not?" stuff, and that completely misses the point of the film. A movie like this demands engagement with themes and the metaphorical. Whether he really killed all those people, imagined the murders, or it was some combination of reality and fantasy by an unreliable narrator is secondary to the point of being meaningless. The point that the film is driving at is everyone around him in this hedonistic, capitalist, Wall Street shithole is more or less just like him. They're all fail sons awash in greed, excess, fake jobs and basically doing nothing but going to useless meetings and eating at overpriced restaurants. Patrick Bateman and Paul Allen keep getting mistaken for other people because they're all the same empty vessel. And even the people who aren't psychopathic killers like Patrick are oblivious or indifferent to his murders because they're focused on the mundane, shallow, spiritually dead pursuits that make up modern consumer culture. This is the core of being an "American Psycho." There is no punishment or catharsis for Bateman (he will never be caught) because the society in which he lives is built upon letting wealthy psychopaths get away with their crimes. He is trapped in this cycle of insecurity, misanthropy, violence and self-loathing.

So his lawyer and the realtor knew. Sort of a take on how all lawyers are out for themselves. He packed Paul Allen’s stuff, hired the realtor. He legit cut ties with Patrick by saying he didn’t know him, and that’s why he said the joke was funny anymore “you’re screwing this up Bateman. Now get away from me.” The realtor saw what he was carrying and the mask and said “you’d better leave.” The writer of the book and the director of the film both had a single problem with it. That the end it wasn’t clear enough that he did do all of it. But his monologue at the end was more about him realizing in this world and this lifestyle he’s surrounded by monsters. And he’s just an honest one. So thusly “this whole confession, has met, nothing.”

Everyone is so wrapped up in themselves, so it's hard to know what is really happening vs what is in his head because even when something is not just in his head no one notices anyway. Except for the laundry women who seemed to react because she was not one of these hyper self absorbed people and the fact she reacted tells me some of these crazy things really happened. Your analysis that the women selling the apartment could be covering up the crimes to prevent them from effecting her business is interesting and it does fit the overall theme as a potential reality.

The book is awful. I'm not sensitive about gross stuff in books, but in this case, I was so appalled at the extraordinary acts he committed on women (men too, but the women were far more graphic and detailed), a was tempted to write the writer and tell him he was a sicko to even think things like that up. Like I said, murder mystery books and even true crime about serial killers don't bother me....but this one (and it's the only one for someone who reads about a book every week) sure did. The movie has none of the stuff I'm talking about.

My favorite scene is when he invites his secretary to dinner. He's so ashamed because he REALLY wants to kill her, but deep down, he KNOWS he shouldn't, so he wears the Ray-Bans as a "mask", to hide his insanity. Great writing and acting.
