Near the junction, the N457 provides a complete connection between both highways. This is followed by the Gouwe aqueduct, which has 4+5 lanes, including a plus lane in the direction of The Hague. East of Gouda the road consists of 2x4 full lanes. Because of the peat area, the A12 runs on two dike bodies that are some distance apart. At the Bodegraven junction the N11 branches off in a westerly direction, to Alphen aan den Rijn and Leiden. This junction is also incomplete: one can only go from Utrecht to Leiden and vice versa. The highway then runs with 2x4 lanes due east through a fairly open polder landscape. Just before Woerden is the border with the province of Utrecht.

Pump action is a type of manual firearm action that is operated by moving a sliding handguard on the gun's forestock. When shooting, the sliding forend is pulled rearward to eject any expended cartridge and typically to cock the hammer or striker, and then pushed forward to load a new cartridge into the chamber. Most pump-action firearms use an integral tubular magazine, although some do use detachable box magazines. Pump-action firearms are typically associated with shotguns, although it has been used in rifles, grenade launchers, as well as other types of firearms. A firearm using this operating mechanism is colloquially referred to as a pumpgun Because the forend is manipulated usually with the support hand, a pump-action firearm is much faster than a bolt-action and somewhat faster than a lever-action, as it does not require the trigger hand to be removed from the trigger while reloading. Also because the action is cycled in a linear fashion, it creates less torque that can tilt and throw the gun off aim when repeat-firing rapidly.
