Thanks!! I haven't been on a ship since before the pandemic, but there are a few videos of songs I recorded playing on ships in my channel. I'd say you need about 70 or so songs to start and then keep adding

Thank you so much for this. Super helpful. Especially about what you said about having around 80 songs and building and that some people just reuse the same 20! Thanks for being so transparent, it's really helpful as there aren't that many videos on people who are applying to be solo guitar/vocalists. I was wondering about the audition process prior: did they pick a song from the repertoire list or could you decide what you played?

Hi Alex! Great that is was useful :). well there is no audition for soloists usually. just have a good video with a few bits of songs in it. mostly when playing you get to choose but people also request and its nice if you can deliver, at least tip wise. hey if you wish write me at [e-mail], we can go into more details and I'd like to ask you about getting your original songs heard, which is something I'm struggling with lately. changes a lot. mostly just classic rock/pop/soul songs from the US and UK

Hi!! Pleasure. Usually about 3 or so but with breaks. I'd take 2 or 3 breaks, depending on the audience number and engagement

Hey Baz! Thanks! Well it depends a bit on the cruise line cause in some lines the sets are spread out through the day (2 to 4 aprox). In Royal they were as from about 8pm to 12pm, with breaks (at will, reading the audience), one day off a week

So solo acts always get their own cabin? Or does it depend on the ship? I've been interested in doing this but the shared cabin situation keeps putting me off

Usually solo guitar-singer or piano-singer have single cabins. Not all solo acts, only the ones who sing as well as play

Julian, I've worked with Morris Day and the Time on cruise ships but now preparing my promo pkg to work as a solo guitarist. Great information you gave! As a solo guitarist, I have a variety of songs (200) right now. Do I need some equipment that plays music behind me, as I perform? Or is it just me, my guitar and amplifier plus an effects pedal? Any and all advice you give me would be highly appreciated. Thanks!🎸🎼

Hey man, I use effects for the guitar and voice and use a Looper for soloing etc. Some guys have backing tracks but I don't like the lack of flexibility it gives. So no rules, just make a nice video.

Are there any positions for a solo flute and sax player, attractive young female playing either standards, latin influenced or classical. Dinner music I would suggest, fine dining. I am asking for a friend I am helping with her career. She is a high quality musician

Isn't having 50 songs tight and professional better than 100 songs that sound so so or downright bad ? If they move you around on the ship you would have a different audience. Do you prefer a short cruise or long cruise? Thanks

Sure! its better if they sound good, but you may get tired quickly of the same 50 songs. the more the better

You don't need to read music for the soloist gig. You can have am iPad with the lyrics too
