I've been thinking of becoming a travel agent. I'm researching so that I don't make mistakes when I start my business. I do have a full time job that pays all my bills, I have 2 older teen kids, I have dreamed of becoming a travel agent - BUT - I am trying to have a realistic approach so that I can build my business while still doing my day job to pay the bills, and not thinking I'll make so much selling travel....so that if I do, amazing, if it comes slowly that will be ok too. AND I want to travel too. I live in San Diego which is HUGE for tourism when Covid isn't here.

I am with AAA as a independent agent using them as a host. I signed on Nov 2019 so needless to say but.... COVID... they have been good with suppliers, training etc. but one of the things I struggle with is how to get out and have my own IATA number. They say I can’t be a travel agent for myself or anyone else for 1 year after I leave them....Also I set up an LLC

I am so lost. I want to be a travel agent but I do not want to recruit. I only want to sell travel. How do I do this? Intele travel is who I am fixing to sign up with but I dont know if it's just a MLM or I will actually be selling vacations and only doing that. Is intele travels good for me or is it just a recruiting business?????

Hi Candace, From what I can tell it is an MLM. I would suggest doing some research on Host Agencies if you are looking to sell travel only!

Do you have to have an LLC to start with a host company?

Not always, it depends on the host. However if they don't require an LLC they often have other rules, restrictions that may not serve your long term interests so keep that in mind as you vet companies.
