What should you follow to become an effective counsellor? What methods do I follow to make my Counselling sessions effective? I am a Chemistry teacher by profession and i have to deal with lots of students and had to council them regarding their studies, their habits, their family problems and to make them focus more on their studies and to motivate them, so my ques is how to become an effective counselor as a teacher, and should i study C.B.T theory which you mentioned in your video, but main thing is that i have not studied counseling?

Most of us generally think Counselling means giving right guidance, right suggestions, tips, support, motivate, etc However, Counselling is more about listening a lot, empathising truly, giving attention individually, etc and a lot other traits. I have seen, generally teachers can’t be good Counselors. Because they are so used to talk more, giving instructions, ordering, commanding, controlling, demanding respect forcefully, etc. Thus there exists a huge barrier for them to become a Counselor. But if you are truly interested, I would say get a masters in psychology first and then learn about counselling skills. All the best.
