You should always use a four inch strips of foundation for your KTB hives!It will cost you more but will let you manipulate your bees much easier!!! Then you can be a beekeeper instead of a beehaver! When you can use your knowledge to manage the bees instead of them managing themselves,you will have much better production with your bees! Good luck with your bees!

Once you learn how, you can multiply your bees quickly! When you learn how, you can build up your bees to be strong when the nectarflow starts. If you have to wait for a colony to build up after the nectarflow has already started, you will mis half of it. You can use sugar and a pollen substitute to build up your bees early in the season! Just think how much two extra boxes of honey would bring you!! Or you could use four extra frames of brood to make two new splits! Or two more boxes of honey from a small hive that wouldnt have made any. Bees dont make any honey after the honeyflow is over! You dont want to feed sugar a minute longer than you need to but it is a valuable tool that you can use to get a bigger yield if you know how! Good luck with your bees!
