Awesome tips, Becket! I never realized how good some of the non-captain Star Swings can be (like the babies and Toadsworth). When I played Sluggers, I had _always_ saved Star Power for only my captains. I recall you had mentioned the BAM technique in a previous video and it can definitely benefit certain characters! I really look forward to more of these guides! I feel like in many of the Mario sports titles, there are a good number of hidden techniques that are never mentioned in-game that can make all the difference in improving your skills.

Great vid. Funnily enough I have the exact opposite reaction to Magikoopa's star swing and think that extra stuntime you get off the catch is great for advancing runners just a little bit more. Some item notes I feel are worth mentioning: The POW Block doesn't affect floaters (sort of like how they're unaffected by Daisy/Jr's star swing) and don't affect characters who are in midair (i.e. jumping). The latter makes it probably the weakest item on high fly balls since no matter when you release the POW Block your opponent can just jump over it. It's still probably the strongest item in the game. This was kind of brought up but I feel its worth reiterating, the fielding AI really doesn't understand what to do against the Boo item which actually makes it pretty good at confusing AI controlled outfielders in buddy jump situations before they get into position.

Just like you guys, I've also noticed that the timing of your charge up can effect the hit. However, for me personally good timing appears to significantly increase the chance of a successful hit. The strat where you press up or down with the nunchuck is difficult for me, especially because I usually get the sweetspot at the very last moment anyways so there's no time to press up or down

Yeah I pretty much only do the up and down strat with a slap hit

Bunting is tough to utilize even for a sac play because the moment the pitcher sees you bunting they can curve the ball away and catch your runner stealing. Definitely situational.

This was great! I still don't know how to have only one runner go forward or back and have the others stay still, I just know press A to have everyone go and B to have everyone go back. I also don't know why a runner starts going before I do anything sometimes. Either one would be really helpful

In order to control the runners, you have to hold the direction of the Nunchuk (D-Pad in horizontal controls) toward the base that you want the runner to move to while pressing A or B. It can be hard to execute properly (especially for me, lol) when there are several runners moving to different places. ~Jake

1:34 Ok. Never Guess where the ball will be. This aint superstar baseball pull hitters are not a thing here. Wait on the ball and look at where its going and hit it to the opposite field. The results will be much better than guessing and hitting a weak grounder 85% of the time. Also I would Recommend only charge swinging when The batter is a 8, 9, or 10. However as stated in this video, some players have higher hits like dark bones and toad. Slap hits should be used by your first 2 batters so they get on for the number 3 hitter but some people have horrendous slaps. The only people I like to slap hit with are The baby bros, waluigi, peach, daisy, Luigi, Monty, koopa, yoshi, toad. I have all ready made a 400 word essay so I might as well make your ideal lineup. 1) Fast 2) Fast, Decent bat or star swing 3) solid hitter with decent speed 4) Great hitter 5) Great hitter 6) good star hit 7) Whoever is left 8) Whoever is left 9) Whoever is left Out field should have chemistry, be fast, and have a good dive or super jump and floating can be very usefull. 1st and 3rd base should be pretty big guy so they take up a lot of space and can grab a lot of balls. The middle infield should have a special dive and good arm. catcher should have a good arm (assuming stealing). Lastly pitcher should be able to control the ball well and put it any where over the plate. It is recommended to have at least one spare pitcher, usually at catcher is someone like peach or toadsworth who are bad in the field. The close play power up should be used two because it can nab you and extra 1 or 2 bases.

Why do y’all say DK has the best star swing? All you do is attack the center of the barrel just like you do with Mario’s fireball. Yoshi and waluigi have the best star swing just because they’re the only one that’s pretty much guarantee a base hit every time with no chance of catching it for an out.

Wario’s star swing is terrible? Is there a way to counter it? I’ve always found it to be great because I’ve never found a counter so it’s almost always an auto-double

If you use nunchuk, you can stand in front of it and jump to catch it. You can also attack the bomb to another player.

Nice video! I play this game also. For a homerun do you know if it always has to be right on the sweet spot on the bat when swinging or can you only get homeruns when it’s on the sweet spot?

You pretty much always have to hit the sweet spot. You can get non-sweet spot homeruns on Daisy Cruiser with power characters though

Is there a more consistent way to get hits off of Toadsworth’s? I been playing with friends and I basically got no hit batting against him. The timing seems all off and I can’t find any consistency in his delivery

If you play with nunchuk/sideways wiimote then you can adjust your position to follow the ball better. For timing, just be really patient, it takes a while to get good. Watch the shadow for the lobs. Also, you can use Star swings to make the timing easier.

You mean quick pitches like with waluigi? You can establish a no quick pitch rule like we do. Or just try slap hitting or Star hitting so you don’t have to charge up

is there any way to not be forced into automatic fielding? i hate being switched between characters, and im never fast enough to run to the pitch in the first place nor can i even see where its going until it switches the character abruptly when im trying to focus on one already

I don’t think there’s any way to get rid of it, you just have to learn how to deal with the abrupt switches. I agree they can be really annoying
