The dream was created by the Moon Presence to host hunters that would help her annihilate Mergo. The game does not state why Moon Presence wanted to kill Mergo, but that's the hole point of the game.

This could hypothetically be done without lagswitching, but you would have to use the rooftop skip to deathcam shortly before Amelia's door, and walk a very long way in death cam to get to yharghul. Ive been thinking about a run like this for a long time, but skipping gascoigne was the main thing i couldnt figure out. Sure, you can easily skip him by going to the forbidden woods, but then youre stuck having to do rom. Great video. (Edit: also, skipping mergo wetnurse is impossible because the slaughtered message at the end is the trigger for gherman moving to the base of the tree, unless theres some crazy quantum entanglement tech you could do with a second ps4 😅)
