At age 19, Jon Jones was being rejected for The Ultimate Fighter on the basis of being too young and having zero experience, but Dana kept his eye on him. At age 20, he was 6-0 about to pick up the phone and take a call that would change his life. It would be Dana White, offering him a fight on the UFC 87 card to fill in for a fighter against André Gusmão which would be less than 3 weeks AFTER he just finished fighting and AFTER celebrating his 21st birthday.

If we agree that Dominic Reyes almost beat him, then the key is to pressure him for 100% of the fight, which Dominic did for the first half but not the second. However, Lyoto Machida pressured Jon and was countered into a choke finish when Jon’s corner picked up on his habit. So basically the key to beating Jon is to pressure him the entire time but with diverse and inconsistent techniques, while also having the God tier cardio to do so for the whole fight.

Saw a great video titled 'How Jon Jones dominated Cyril Gane' by Danny Cage. Speaks to Jon's movement in the cage, how he blocked exists and disrupted Gane's rhythm just with footwork, didn't allow him to reset and got him into bad positions on the feet multiple times leading up to the takedown. Also highlights Jon's incredible understanding of technique on the ground. Really worth a watch.

To beat Jones you need one of two things. One, a wrestler that is bigger and stronger than Jon...someone like Lesnar. The other route is a big puncher that has good enough take down defense to force Jon to stand up like Ngannou. Ten years ago Overeem may have been one. Thats one of the reasons i tune in to your channel Chael. Thats a great comparison to mike and his aura. Jones is getting in to that same territory. Its going to take someone like buster. That just doesnt give a sh*t about his resume and is fighting for something bigger than him. From what I’ve heard, Gustafsson came closest of anyone to beating Bones, and that was the first fight when Jon didn’t take him seriously. Gus was notably the first fighter to match Jones for size, taller by an inch with slightly less reach; he was also a great wrestler with solid takedown defense, good striking and the faster athlete. Physically that’s what’s needed to beat Jones, but you also need an absolutely ferocious mentality to fight smart while also fighting aggressively. You’d absolutely HAVE to force some kind of a mistake and jump on it with everything you had. Playing defense versus Jones is too dangerous… he’ll take you apart given any kind of time. I think you’d need to attack, but damn if I’d know where to start!

I've been trying to figure out, why Stipe seems so absolutely certain in his confidence. Jon said he's not done alot of sparring in the striking realm and received a grand total of zero punches and kicks to the face, body or legs from Gane. Is that what Stipe is counting on? The element of surprise? That Jon might be too overconfident and come forward only to get caught with big shots, the likes he's never experienced under the bright lights. Let's also throw in that Stipe weighs over 250 So, for me. It's Stipe that not only could, but will knock Jon Jones out at 40 and shock the World with basic one twos and basic Wrestling attacks, and takedown defence. Maybe a left hook now and again to the body.

If Jones is done taking guys lightly and partying during camp and if for all time he's gotten rid of that mental tic where he had to beat the opponent at what the opponent does best (certainly against Gane he took the clear path to victory and didn't play with his food), it might realistically be impossible to beat him. Too skilled, too ruthless, too determined.

4:03 just bc this one is always so weird lol but it being before KZbin, Tyson nearly decapitated seldon. Not quite as bad as Michael Johnson but the left from hell snapped not only Bruce’s head back, but his entire body off the ropes. Ppl called it fixed bc it was so short. But it was a vacant belt before seldon beat tucker. Only the hardcores know why- Foreman was open that he wanted no part of Mike. He refused his mandatory bc he knew where it led him… straight to Tyson. Mike also preferred not to fight Foreman but you got the sense he would have if he had to. Seldon wasn’t exactly the iron chin ppl some reason think. Bowe held the wba not too long prior and he destroyed seldon quicker than Tyson even. There was nothing fixed about it. He was a champion of a vacated belt that was previously held by a man who beat him even quicker. Also, what is this video? Just needed to put Jon Jones in the title and proceed to say nothing. This time more than most. But I appreciate you sparking the Seldon unsolicited comment. That was heavyweight heaven, great times to be a fan.

Fedor had 31 wins (plus a no-contest and a doctor stoppage) when he fought Fabricio Verdum. He had recently beaten the former UFC champ Tim Sylvia in 33 seconds. Everyone was saying that he wasn't human, and that his quick, effortless destruction of Sylvia was just evidence that he could never be beaten. Then he got choked out by Verdum, GnP by Bigfoot, knocked out by Henderson... And at the time he entered his losing streak he had 4 more victories than Jones (who's at 27, 1 NC, 0 losses). We've been here before. People nut hug onto the latest undefeated fighter, because they want to believe that martial arts movies can be real: That there's such a thing as an invincible human. Even if Jones manages to retire undefeated (like Rickson did, by beating up bums in Vale Tudo Japan), he'll still show his humanity like Rickson by being racked with arthritis, and a jacked back after more than a half century of Jiu Jitsu. Or he'll have CTE like Liddell, and probably be driving his car through the window of a Circle K 10 years from now. No one's invincible.

Randy has the skills and he certainly won against much larger opponents but I'm not sure any of those opponents ever used their advantages all that well. I have two major issues with that match up with the first being that Jones has the rare ability in MMA to pressure while staying both way outside and way inside. My second issue is that Randy Couture's best position was the clinch or using the clinch to advance to other positions and the last thing you want to do is end up in the clinch anywhere near the cage with Jones. However, yea I could see Couture perhaps being good enough in the clinch make that part of the fight neutral.

Keep him centered up and just inside his reach. Work off he's attempts to get back where he wants which is to the side and back. Those reset attempts will be when you make a move and it doesn't have to be shooting for a takedown. A move can be getting in closer and making him grapple standing. Push him against the cage tire him take sting out of those punches. That's my guess. Sergie is probably the best chance right now. Stipe is getting on in age. Francis would be another one if Francis had stayed in this sport passionate and improving but he didn't.

Aspinall is lean and big with very well rounded skills at about 255lbs. His BJJ is probably the best in the HW division. He has good boxing and moves as well as Gane. From a skillset point of view he's the best bet. Pavolvich is a monster. Totally fearless, incredibly powerful. Utterly ruthless. He won't fear Jones and has the capability to hurt anyone. From an attitude point of view he's the best bet. Blaydes is huge. Powerful base, great wrestling background. True true heavyweight. From a size/experience point of view he's the best bet. But it's entirely plausible that Jones could beat them all. He is crazy talented, with great fight IQ and he's a psycho. But spare Stipe. Throw those three guys at him and if he can beat them all in the next 18 months. Then he's the GOAT no question.

I feel like only a wrestle-boxer could beat Jones. Jones isn't the best boxer and lacks the power that many MMA fighters possess with their punches. With stellar take down defense, a very high fight IQ, and powerful punches somebody could win. Working the mid range is how to handle him since long range he has devastating kicks and short range he has nasty elbows and knees.

In the Octagon's harsh embrace, a clash of titans, bone and grace. Jon Jones, the lion, sleek and strong, a predator where he belongs. But Miyagi, the bonsai's might, eyes serene, a hidden light. The bell tolls, a primal roar, Jones strikes first, lightning to the core. Elbows fly, a whirlwind's dance, Miyagi parries, gives him chance. Then, quick as wind through cherry leaves, a crane kick soars, the fighter weaves. But Miyagi's palm, a whisper soft, deflects the blow, leaves Jones aloft. Suspended, eyes wide with surprise, Jones tastes defeat in Miyagi's eyes. A gentle touch, a whispered word, the lion's fury, now unheard. Balance shifts, the tide turns slow, Miyagi's foot, a falling snow. Jones crumples, form in disarray, the bonsai master wins the day. The crowd erupts, a joyous sound, Miyagi bows, humility profound. For victory, in ancient lore, lies not in power, but in the core. So let this tale a lesson be, in every fight, find harmony. For strength is found in nature's grace, and wisdom whispers, "Find your space."
