I'm surprised that in the beginning he didn't mention trying to burn the blob with the fire nearby after it latched on the arm. Sure, it's not likely to work considering the heat the stuff probably experienced when entering our atmosphere but it's worth a shot. He might mention this later on but why not mention it there? Also what about using dirt or something else (like another stick) to scrape the blob off? Also a stuffy nose would help because mucus is used in the stomach to help against acid...maybe having snot on his arm would slow it down or something? What about electricity from a car battery? Surely the guy got out there somehow?

VOLAIRE'S MINION If the blob is powerful as mentioned and it’s quick to consume it’s prey, then a stick or some dirt wouldn’t work. Also, how exactly would car batteries work? Create a makeshift boob and blow himself up? Electrocute himself? Also, it was pointed out in the video that the blob excretes something much more corrosive than stomach acid, so snot wouldn’t work either. Furthermore, where in the world is a homeless man going to get a flamethrower? The flea market? Unlikely. The solution has to be logical and achievable not something like expecting the homeless man to burn the blob in the sun.

The scene of the cook getting killed is far more disturbing than Paul, in my opinion. Yes, while Paul's death is terrifying on itself (getting acidified and dissolved while screaming in utter pain), the cook was actively getting absorbed into a PIPE way (while has a perimeter so small it'd be suffocating). His skulls and bones is getting crushed (which is excruciating and extremely painful) in order to fit into the perimeter WHILE being dissolved using a very corrosive acid. That's one hell of a way to die.

The best part about late 70’s and 80’s horror movies (for the most part) was that the threat was ever present and the protagonists were able (for the most part) make rational decisions
@numbdigger95523 жыл бұрын
but threats like this and the thing are cases where the monster itself is kind of stupid, because people seriously underestimate the capabilities of lifeforms that can assimilate humans. See how easily corona spread from one place to EVERYWHERE? Now think if instead it was also intelligent and would 100% kill everyone it came in contact with. A killer that is intelligent, invisible and everywhere is quite impossible to win against. This is why movie makers have to dumb the monster down so it can be dealt with, because imagine if the blob just released spores everywhere, and instead of staying as one big mass, split up to many, smaller blobs. We'd be f*ucked!!! And what if the thing assimilated one person and then acted normal until they got back to civilization? We'd be MEGA F*UCKED!!!!!!

@jacobcox45654 жыл бұрын
To anyone who says that weaponizing raptors is a smart plan because "we use dogs," yes the military uses dogs but that is mostly due to the fact that dogs have been domesticated animals for thousands of years and can be taught simple commands. If by a small chance a dog were to turn on its owner, the dog would be relatively easy to to subdue. The raptors in the movie were 6 ft tall, fast enough to outrun a motorcycle, and strong enough to overpower a trained soldier, plus despite the fact that they are smart enough to follow simple commands, they are not loyal and will turn on their owner on a dime. They are too dangerous to be reliably used.

The blob is EXTREMELY corrosive, which means it has an extremely high or extremely low ph. To counteract this, simply mix it with a strong base/alkaline. To be realistic, I would use bleach for the base and/or vinegar for the acid, but if you have something like caustic soda for the base or hydrochloric acid, use that instead. I would like the infected part into the substance instead of coating it, because the blob may consist of ph buffers to maintain its ph. Just let it sit in the alkaline until the reaction stops ( this should be obvious, as it will create movement, sound, heat and, and maybe light) and the blob seems to dissolve. If it doesn't do anything, then the blob is basic, so use the acid. Let it sit in the acid until the reaction stops, then disinfect and cauterize the wound with heat or medical equipment to prevent sepsis or regional infection. Boom, blob defeated. This only applies at the start, but if the first person to be exposed to the blob did this, it would have been over then and there. Or like nerd explained said, don't be a f*cking moron.
@Displ4c4 жыл бұрын
Bro?
@drderpphd4 жыл бұрын
If the blob consumes via phagocytosis and the digestive substance is released internally via liposomes, there might be an issue with getting the neutralizing agent into the digestion sites. For example, if the liposome membranes can keep the caustic juices in, then those membranes can probably keep the neutralizing agents out. Still interesting solution. What I point out is just speculation and depends on hypotheticals about the blob and how it'd react to a flood of neutralizing agent. And yeah, some of those folks were dummies.

Nerd seems like the best kinda of guy to have as a consultant for horror script writers to run their scripts by. So many horror movies go from scary to painful to watch after the characters make brain dead decisions. A horror movie where the characters make the smartest decisions possible and still end up at a disadvantage against the antagonist would be far more thrilling and fun to watch.

IcyCrusader thats also utilizing nuclear fission (the sun I mean) which means at the atomic level it would pull whatever it is apart, so yes that is entirely true since the transfer of energy would be too great for the structure of the cells and the entropy would cause them to split. As for cold? There are life forms that can survive that (cute lil water bears anyone?) so it’s not entirely out of the question for something much larger to be able to withstand that low temp. If you look at the thing, it’s technically a huge group of microbes that function as “one” in a weird not fully understood way so I could see it surviving subzero temperature easily, *however* I do also know that absolute zero would effectively kill almost anything (unless you have someway to cryogenically bring life back to cells) as per the absolute zero sucking enough energy out of it to absolutely stop all movement atomically. period.

Just the thought of a huge blob monster that can consume and dissolve you is horrifying. The special effects in this movie definitely bring this terror to life. I’m generally scared of slashers like Micheal and Jason, but something about creatures such as The Blob or The Thing bring that fear to a whole new level.
