All i could think is that a community like that would have been discovered pretty fast. I'm not an expert on the subject but i'm pretty sure that if you report 6 people disappearing (as mentioned at the start) the search would be pretty intense. human eyes adapt to low or zero light conditions over an extended period of time. the blinding is probably over the top ritualistic practice, but if they figure out how to escape they can't see still. plus when the large gate opens up, they will be able to the light emanating from the entrance, i don't remember it being a solid door either, large branches i believe. so the gaps would leak light as well. i imagine that the darkness is the punishment, the blinding is mostly for confusion and containment (and of course punishment)

That log is an impossibility. There is quite literally no way for a log of that length and thickness to have been rolled through a forest, hill or no hill. There is NEVER a gap perfectly that wide for a significant distance in woods like that. A log of that size likewise would be ridiculously difficult to move through a forest to get it to that exact location. This means they had to have just been waiting there hoping that out of the ENTIRE FORREST some yuppy hikers would meander by THAT location and just stand there for a bit and also not hear the tree barreling down the hill before it crests the ridge to bear down on them. To top it off they had to hope said hikers would run down the hill instead of to the side. Needlessly elaborate. Just set actual traps like pitfalls into either snakes or spikes, snares/nets, bear traps, whip traps, and swinging mace traps. All are simpler, more likely to be lethal (for the lethal ones) and infinitely more likely to be crippling (for the ones designed to catch rather than kill). Oh, wait THEY DO. The log is just dumb who came up with that? The dudes in ghillie suits didn't actually even seem hostile. I mean a guy ran at them with a weapon (and they had weapons themselves) yet they seemed to be trying to reason with them albeit with a language barrier, yes they made fairly aggressive gestures but you would too if someone just ran at you with a weapon and started yelling at you in a language you don't understand. While a bit odd they would carry a guy like that if they had no means of making a proper stretcher and deemed him mostly unhurt they could very well have just been carrying him back to the road or where they know people park their cars (as the one that doesn't die later claims, no idea if that is a lie or not). In all likelihood they have some sort of agreement with the locals that "outsiders" are to stay on the marked trails and off "their" land. After all the townspeople kept saying to stick to the trails because everywhere else is dangerous. The gate is locked... so just go over it? Or around it. FFS you have been there for long enough you should know how to get out of the camp.

@@Its_Captain_Jack_Sparrow Yup and it sure didn't look like they had vehicles or animals in that camp lol. that is what I meant when I said it was stupid. It would take probably 6-8 really strong dudes to move that tree trunk or like 2 large animals (technically one but that would put a lot of strain on it due to the friction of dragging it). The area was certainly not cleared, you could see all of the trees in the area and not one stump to be found if they removed larger trees (I mean it did eventually get stopped by a tree about half its thickness which is about right). And if they did clear it and took the time to remove stumps without heavy machinery that is A LOT of work for as I said a trap that requires people to be complete idiots and slow idiots at that to not just walk past the cleared area. The effort spent setting up that log trap would have been better spent just setting more pitfalls, whips, and deadfalls. And would have been infinitely more effective.

We needed the knife pommel and tomahawk to pound the stakes into packed ground. We needed to cut dead wood for a fire so the brushhook was great. Picking up on your mercenary army idea, I’d love to see a movie or series about some rich person losing someone they love to the mountain people and bringing an army to burn down their village. It could follow them as the fight their way up the mountain and slowly get picked off by traps and guerrilla tactics. Maybe in the second to last or last episode (provided it’s a series) the forest gets lit ablaze and we could get some awesome shots of the mountain in flames and the rich person squares off as the last survivor with the Foundation’s leader in a burnt down section of the forest surrounded by burnt trees and ash. Maybe some ash is falling around as they fight. You could have them kill each other and give it the message of seeking vengeance for what you’ve lost will make you lose everything you have left or something along those lines. If you’ve read the Star Wars Republic comics that covered the battle of Jabiim, basically the ending from that

Commenting on the rolling barrel of trunk: The guys were so stupid running downhill when there are much better and easier solutions. 1. If the trunk is very long, it still doesn't have a chance of knocking you if you run sideways to the end closest to you ie. if you were at the right end of the trunk, run forward which is basically the right end of the tree trunk, vice versa for if you were at the back of the line, run backwards (which is left end of trunk.) 2. Assuming the speed was very high, a simple solution is going behind a tree of relatively similar broadness. It will stop the trunk or change it's course. For example how we see the guy who was crushed waiting for the incoming trunk, had he adjusted himself quickly and gone behind the tree, he would have survived. 3. The riskiest idea: Lay flat behind raising ground areas. The idea is to spot where there is something like a pile of wood sticking from the ground or where there are roots protuding from the ground to create small anthill-like formations. Laying down under this MIGHT save you because the trunk will be lifted over the ground for some distance. For maximum security when doing so, lay parallel to the incoming trunk.
@summonersriftgarbage44262 жыл бұрын
1. Running downhill wasn't a bad idea in itself, running downhill without a plan was and falling was reaaaaaally fking bad, you can run downhill, keep cool to no lose your balance that easily and once ur in front of a tree just jump and grap on as high as you can, the tree will either deviate, rotate around your tree or stop 2. Eh as mentionned here ^, the trunk can rotate around the tree, so it can literally hit the front and the back if its slightly to the righ or the left of the middle of the falling trunk, he even said it himself in the video

My survival strategy would have been to stick to the trail, have a nice large knife for protection and always have some of the giggle bush for the campfire as nothing unites people more than a doobie-even murderous mountain men. Edit* Actually in all seriousness I would have three main items-Hatchet or large knife, a compass and a flashlight or fire-starter. As soon as I see the attackers I would stay hidden and wait until they leave the area. I would then climb down the mountain into the town to inform them my friends had been taken. I would leave the area and inform better law enforcement. I would go back with backup and go on the offensive and try and help rescue my friends. Otherwise, everyone would die.

I saw a video of a women in a car after a accident and it was smoking, she was in full panic and couldn't unlock the front doors or wind down the windows due to damage, this biker with a go pro kept calm and ordered/asked her if its possible she can unlock the back doors to the car, she could and did and got out before the car caught fire. I mention that because it's annoying when people say "why don't you just run this way when a log is rolling at you at high speeds" or some other scenario where if you have a clear head it's a simple fix, in an actual situation where your life is in danger you can't just switch off and think rationally unless you've been trained to do so like the military, police, ambulance or fire services. The average person will panic and make stupid mistakes without the education people have. Even trained people panic and make mistakes, "hindsight is 20/20" yeah but in the moment it's a blur. Love your content just had to rant about the judgement, I understand its for entertainment but jeez give them slack! 😂 especially how even though its a movie and not "real" with my argument in a way it is with how they react
@Frawst_ Жыл бұрын
I agree SOME people will do that, but ALL of the people in the video and quite frankly in nearly all horror movies run straight down from impending doom. These people had a good 5-6 seconds from seeing the branch till it got close to them to move out of the way If a person runs parallel to doom coming towards them and continues running the same way after some time, I'm sorry perhaps it's for the best that they're caught by death I've been in an motorcycle accident where after hitting the brakes I had the wherewithal to understand that it wouldn't be enough and I also slammed my feet on the asphalt to further increase friction and reduce speed. The moment wasn't a blur, the adrenaline made it feel like time was much slower in fact and I remember it vividly to this day years later

For the log rolling down, I would have used one of the standing trees (relatively thick one) as cover. Even if the tree breaks, it'll knock off the rolling log off course. As for other things, I agree. First of all, when there's hostile force near you, then the first thing you should do is arm yourself with lots and lots of weapons (and shield, such as your own backpack). And never run in unfamiliar environment, esp when you know ahead of the time that there are traps.

Even if you would be not dumb enough to go off trail, one thing you can do is what me and my buddy's are doing. Whenever we hike (deadly cult country or not), and we walk in a single line, we do something that's called a soldier walk. We've all been in the military and there we've learned to rotate, so for example: 3 Persons: Front - middle - back and then we rotate every 500M or so the back becomes front, front middle and so on. The last person also always looks backwards every 3 to 7 steps, and the front one looks in the same pace backwards to check if everyone is there and so on. That way we're sure every is accounted for and not fell suddenly, or that we're having wild life behind us all out of the blue. Anyways, just thought is was worth sharing. Keep up the good work Nerd Explains! love your vids

One thing I like to add on the pile of "paranoid guy tells you have to not be dumb and survive" walking in ranks would be much better than a line, set of two walking side by side lowers chance of being ambushed and though they might be a bit slower they should be anyways to check for traps and people in the woods.

My first assumption is that he's trying to offer services for money. I might suggest: "Thanks for the offer, friend. We're really excited about choosing our own path and making our own way. We're hoping to do this without a guide. And I don't mean anything by it, but I don't know you very well, and I'm not an easily trusting kind of person.
