Sam makes such an important point here. Learning this suite of skills, and going from "lecturing" to "student-centered engagement" is not an instant thing. It takes time, sometimes a lot of time, sometimes years. It's easy to look at someone who is already doing all the things and feel complete overwhelm. Even learning how to change one thing can be draining. The journey from here to there is just that, a journey, small steps, maybe occasionally a big one, getting a little bit better, trying something a little bit outside your comfort zone, and building capacity to do all the things. It helps if you can get your students to be the ones to ask, "Can we try that?" When I left a teaching job in higher ed a few years back, the guy they tried to recruit in my place refused to apply. He'd been adjuncting for a couple of years and saw how I ran my classes - service learning projects, lots of tech, company tours with students, guest speakers, etc. He said he didn't have enough time in the day to take that over, and despite us telling him that no one expected it of him, he couldn't see that it's okay to start from where ever you are. I made little changes year over year, which kept things interesting and exciting for me, too. I couldn't have stood to just lecture the same content over and over. Heck, I'm still learning and improving and trying to find ways to make the content relevant. Every time I think I have it, tech changes, or students change, or policies change. Only thing constant is change!

This is a late response Quant Quill but I appreciate you sharing all this. It's definitely not an overnight change made in the classroom!

I love this! Have you heard of InspiritVR before? I'm a huge fan of their simulations by myself, but I'd love to hear your opinion on how you think they would work in the classroom

have signed up for the 21st century teacher PD, but it starts at about 2:00 in the morning for me, is it possible to save some spaces for those of us down under?

It was too pricey for me. I may have missed it but I never saw a price until I went to sign up this morning. It was a shock to see it would cost over $400 dollars. I love your work Sam and will continue to watch your vlogs. But next time you might be very open about the price. It allows people time to decide if they want to pay that price out of their pocket. Good luck with the course and I hope it is a success.

Hey Terry, thanks so much for the feedback. We’ll work to be more open about the pricing in the future as well as provide support for teachers looking to get their administration to pay for their enrollment. We appreciate the continued support!
