23 year Diesel mechanic. No trade school. But what I did do. I got certs online and went to day classes. CDL, EPA 608,609, Cummins, tire cert. You name it. Learned on the job. Only thing a college Diesel degree will earn you is management…… You don’t need a trade school. You can learn it on the job in 2024.

Im already currently going to school. But would you say going to school and learning concepts and theory of operation would be beneficial to on the job training and help you learn significantly faster?

Not worth it. Mechanics get treated like trash. $30hr x 40 hrs= 1200 minus the torque wrench that needs to be recalibrated -$160 Gloves and PPE not supplied $20 Taxes. Yeah not worth it anymore.

I'm sorry to hear about your negative experience in the transportation repair industry. While some areas use a straight hourly pay system, many, including ATS, have performance-based pay structures that allow for higher earnings. ATS also offers tool allowances and PPE to ensure employee safety. It's important to note that experiences can vary widely across different sectors, such as auto body, automotive, and diesel repair, as well as between small and large companies. I recommend touring and interviewing with multiple organizations to find the right fit for your career in transportation repair. We have some great resources to help you find the right fit for you as well, you can find them here: www.atsinc.com/corporate-careers/success-center?pageNumber=0&search=diesel&sortType=published_date&sortOrder=asc

Can felons get a job as a diesel mechanic?
@careersuccesscenterАй бұрын
Here at ATS, we have a policy to conduct a background check as part of our hiring process. Background checks are assessed based on established criteria. All businesses are different however, and that would be a question for the individual company you are looking to work for. Hope this helps and good luck on your career journey!
