Maybe the algorithm is different now, but back when I worked on UpWork, I did the same thing, always offering a price much lower than was fair, but I never found that this opened any extra doors for me. I feel like I cornered myself as being the editor who edits videos for cheap. Also, I felt like UpWork forced you to do a lot of work yourself, writing up individual cover letters for each potential job, re-uploading work samples that you wanted to highlight. I started out on Elance, and then UpWork bought them out, and I felt like a lot of the beauty of Elance was lost. I was never actually able to make a living from freelancing. I ended up going to college for computer science and getting myself a salaried 9-to-5 instead, and now I'm able to strike a much healthier work/life balance. I do editing on the side, but the ability to make it my career still seems untenable. Again, maybe this is just me, but fair warning to any prospective young editors out there.

get stock footage and start editing there, use free sites like pexels and pixabay and then if you can move on to something like storyblocks to make edits from there

Quick question, as a beginner it's difficult to see the bigger picture of video editing , can you help with that ?, also what does a career as a video editor entail? Lastly, profession wise, does video editing fall under the same category as picture editing?
