Actually, the pupilage is done after being called to the bar. It’s 6 months long. So the first 6 months of “practice” is used for the pupilage. While a pupil, you’re limited in what you do although you’re a lawyer. In fact, your license to practice is issued after the pupilage has been completed. Also, take notice that there are plans to extend the pupilage to one year. Ta!

In Ghana is there a difference between a solicitor and a barrister? Cause, from my research, the path of a barrister differs from that of a solicitor, so solicitors don't do the 6 months pupillage as barristers have.

If you want to be a company lawyer after having a degree in other fields can you proceed to Makola straight away or you will have to pursue a four year degree in a private school? Hello April, Ghana's Legal system is indeed Labyrinthine!!!

You need to have an LL.B to get into the GSL. The period for obtaining this differs from university to university so you can check that out.
