The very first minute exactly describes me. Paleontology is all I’ve ever wanted to do. I even joined the army just so I could pay for college and now I’m in my third semester

I always loved hunting fossils. I was a science nerd in high school but life got in the way of me being a paleontoligist. I'm old now and only wish things could have been different. You young people follow your dreams don't be me when your to old to grab the ring of your dreams.

I think maybe im having the same realization but earlier in life. Ive been getting over a suicidal episode and have resolved that im not going to lie to myself anymore. I need to atleast try to achieve my passion in life. Id be extremely disappointing in myself if i had it any other way.Luckly im young. Only 20. I want to get my life together.

@@sweatyskinfolds1385 Good luck to you my friend find that thing that really makes you wonder aloud to yourself. Then chase it as best you can. I too have had thoughts of harming myself but have struggled to get past them. Above all forgive you and love you, god has and he's a bit smarter than either of us.lol.

@@unclegrease1 Thank you! If your still currently feeling stuck, I find that mindfulness training to be very effective. Knowing your emotions and how and how not to act on them is a very valuable skill.

I hope to become a paleontologist that can incorporate art into my work. I've been reaching for a profession in paleontology since 2nd grade so I hope I can achieve that goal OwO.

I think I'm the type of person who wants to go out in the bad lands and dig for dinosaurs. Would I need a high education for this to happen? Such as majoring in geology? Also, how hard is it to work for a museum to go on digs?

I’m scared I won’t make it, I don’t have the money and I wanted a more relaxed life. I thought working at a museum would be the best for me but perhaps not. Thank you for the info, but I might have to take a different path

I have a question. Let say that I finish my Bs in geology with a concentration in biology plus a minor in entomology. I can do my own digs and research on invertebrates right? Cause I know I don’t need permission when it comes to invertebrates right? Or I really need to have a Ms and be conectes to an institution???

carlos vasquez it depends on what country you are collecting fossils in and who owns the land. In the United States you don’t need any education to collect on private land just permission from the land owner. State and county lands often have their own laws, but federally managed land requires a permit. For invertebrates you don’t need a permit, but this is currently changing with new rules by the department of interior. Check with the land agency before you head out. Federal permits in the United States require that you have at least a MS or MA to be in charge of a project. You can work with a team on a permit if you don’t have your masters degree so see if you can volunteer with a local museum. Tribal lands have their own laws. Make sure that you have permission before you collect any fossils, otherwise you risk getting arrested. Keep good records of where you collect fossils as well. Have fun!

Chris Harris I’ve known paleontologists who trained in veterinary sciences, working with living animals, but also studying their extinct ancestors. So as long as the job works best with your personal interests.
