Hi PilotEd, your videos are simply great, you're doing an amazing job. Correct me if I am wrong, did you state you paid in total around 100k including type rating (30k ish) and cost of life in Spain? Thank you in advance

thanks for the kind words, will keep at it :) and yes about that, modular is the cheapest way, not the fastest. looking back if I had the option to do an integrated with one of the "fancier" schools i would probably recommend it. however for many people (my self included) its just not possible money wise. At the end of the day it depends on the individual. the licence will be the same one. thanks for watching

I definitely agree with you. I am now seriously thinking to get through a modular ATPL as well after finishing my studies. I'll soon get a PhD in physics. Do you perhaps know if there's any an "easy" or easier way (in terms of money and time) to access to ATPL programs with higher education levels? Thank you for your patience

After I did pass my 9 PPL exams, the flying went slow becaus of weather, more students, technical etc. Hopefully after PPL I can start renting airplanes and do the houebuilding.

I don't know how I came across this now, but.. better late than never. Pilot Ed, you will not believe what you just did to me through this video. I am going to keep it brief but, hope you will understand. I, as many other people if not everybody who watched this video wants to become a pilot and yeah, the financial circumstances are not there, and even my mental circumstances are not there, I don't have them. I from very early teenage hood struggle with an addiction that simply said, controls my life every day and in school, as a 17 year old it doesn't allow me to focus and to study. It is very hard to quit, the amount of determination that is needed in order to stop is ridiculous, the brain is pretty much wired, and no it is nothing life-threatening at first, but it is just not healthy to the mind and makes a person weaker, sad and even depressed sometimes. But, what your instructor said and how you quoted it 'Passion & Discipline' I found that extremely motivating, I can say that this was the most motivating thing for me this year. Now again, I am trying to discipline myself to get out of this addiction that I have, and sorry I won't share it as it is quite embarrassing for me but thank you. Thank you so much, I am glad I found your channel.

Really nice message mate! thanks, and my advice is go for everything you want, theres a way to get there for everyone, just dont expect anything in the short term, plans have to be made for years in advance, at least for myself, if my family had money maybe less time lol! and dont worry about your addiction mate! I had a good few years of "partying" in my early 20's haha. All the best mate

Thank you, have my plans already, talked with the flight school. In a year or so, will be going to visit them to do my suitability test and psychologist interview. It is in Poland, and thankfully I am Polish. Although I live in Ireland, will do my training with them hopefully, 45,000 euros from nothing to fATPL so that does not seem like a bad price. Just the money is what is stopping me, possibly will go modular too.. but who knows. Thank you again Ed.

Can I just ask, did you carry on working full time while doing your PPL or did you stop working when starting your journey to becoming a pilot? I have an experience flight booked in August and trying to work out if it is possible for me to do my training over a few years as I carry on working. Did you get a career loan? I was wondering how you managed to start paying the loan off before you had a job as a pilot. Thanks! Looking forward to more videos.

Ed what would be your advise regarding my situation. I have just been promoted and this will enable me to finance me dream of becoming a pilot and ideally commercial. I can see two options currently looking at personal life 1) I get my medical, save my wages until I have the direct course fee in full and apply to Aeros to attend their £64K flight school after a couple of trial flights this should take 2-3 years max to save (I'm 35 now). 2) have a couple of test flights and if its right for me ( it is ) then each month after paying out bills etc I put aside what is available and book flying lessons. Any advise would be extremely welcoming as I'm more worried about my age at 35 and not being employable after spending 64k plus

How much of a barrier can age be? I'm 33 now, but I'm on methadone due to a past drug addiction (although I never injected anything). I'm working my way off it, but obviously I'm not likely to have much hope with the medical as a result (even though it never causes me to feel intoxicated at all, and my driving is fine, but the stigma is there and doctors are likely to go by the book "may cause you to feel intoxicated" - it did only for the first week I was on it). It's a hard medication to come off and I'm not getting any younger. I have to work while studying due to well... Being an adult! So slow path is the only choice. My health is otherwise excellent and I've got good genes in that regard so hopefully that will stay good for a while at least. Athletic family with good health. I'm also on stimulants for ADHD, and once again this doesn't impair me (actually it helps me concentrate and multi task, definitely more impaired without it) but the medicals sound strict... I am an exceptionally fast learner especially when it comes to memorising lots of information and when I did IT, I routinely raced past all my classmates, finishing eveything far earlier than the next person - but accurately - and helping others out, often get 100% on mid-semester tests and +85% on exams that don't require essays. It doesn't matter what it is, I seem to learn anything I want to really easily. Really lucky in that regard. It's just the bad choices I made in the past. Looking back though now knowing about the adhd, it's like no wonder I was so impulsive, so there's not much point in regretting what's done.

I’m 15 rn and doing my PPL, I’ve got two concerns, CPL, do I try and get trained with an airline that does a program or would I need a student loan for training at an academy? My instructor had some good advice and he’s a charter pilot, just want your opinion, thanks!!!

Fantastic explanation thank you so much. Can I have two quick questions, 1. how long did it take you to get PPL at Spain? 2. When you topping up your hours before CPL, did you fly mostly at UK? As I understand just to rent an aircraft hourly to do solo, wouldn't much cheaper in Spain than UK? I am planning to do PPL at Dunkeswell, Devon school, where is nearest from mine, but as you said it could delay the process a lot, weather wise. Thank you, looking forward to hearing from you.

Hey, thanks for watching. I dod EVERYTHING in Spain, was allot cheaper. took a few months to get PPL, 4 years to do ATPL /CPL just because I was working. all on about 60k

Hey, I keep reading in the comments that people are having trouble getting jobs after training. I've been thinking about going through with this as I've always dreamed about being a pilot and the military route is unfortunately cut off for me. My step father is an airline pilot and he told me once you've completed all your certificates and flight hours there will basically be jobs lined up for me. I guess this depends on the country you're applying in. But in the US all the pilots are old, and he said over the next 7 years over 10,000 jobs will be opening for American Airlines, and that's just one Airline. Just curious, it'll be expensive but worth it if I didn't have to worry about a job at the end of the journey.

in my experience there two types of schools, cheap ones and good ones, I went to a cheap one in madrid, I could not recommend it, it din not prepare me for airline work or glass cockpit at all. Jerez is great if you can afford it, if going modular route its really up to YOU as an individual to study hard like i did and understand, very much depends on your instructor. you could pay allot and get a bad instructor or not pay much and get a good one! visit the schools and see what vibe you get for your self and ASK students thee what they think in private! :) good luck

Im from poland. Is EFA(european flight Academy(lh group flight school)) ATPL course a good option for me(you only need fluent german for MPL course, for ATPL not)? It is only 60k and 20k sign in bonus so it would only cost me 40k, and it is very likely to get employed by eurowings europe (EWE) afterwards and they pay your TR then, i think its a more financially save way to become a pilot than a private school in poland? Should i Go for it?

@pilotEd Thank you so much for your informative video. I had one question. since I know we need to have 1500 of flight hours to become an Airline Pilot In US plus requires getting your 4 years degree done in order to get into the major Airlines. I'm 20 years old and I was wondering is it better to do flight training each summer and continue going to college and getting my degree done at the same time as my training so I can finish both or should I do it separately since it might be interrupting in both education . Or should I get done all my training first and then start going to college. Thank you.

I would say do both at once! If you can do your training/flight hours in your own time, find a school that will accommodate that :)
