Wow you have so much experience prior to your AP post! I don’t know how you fit it all in! It’s amazing that you managed to get a job with only 20 applications and 3 interviews 👏🏼 . I think im going to start to really tailor each application now &ive experienced my first interview (OTA) and it was scary but now I know what to expect for others. Hopefully I can get another interview soon! Also I managed to get an interview without fully graduating so it’s possible.

I worked all through uni and at one point had 3 jobs lol but they were all part time roles! Tailoring the supporting info is time consuming but so worth it. Ooo that is good to know that you can get an interview before graduating!

This great! I'd love to chat to you about your progress from your degree to your current post! It sounds like you've done so much! I have to admit I've found it so difficult in recent years with my applications, especially since I work within SEN as a TA and my spare time is dedicated to the Army Reserve and my own sport psychology consultancy. It just feels like the jobs are gold dust and you can't get in edgeways. It's exceptionally demoralising at times but it's lovely to see such videos from people like yourself aiming to help others! I was ready to pack it all in this time three months ago. Well done and keep up the great work!

In the 6 months between graduating and getting the job I was working as an ABA tutor and applying for AP roles. It is really difficult to find the time to apply when you have so much other stuff going on and it sounds like you're busy! I would just keep going, you have a lot of skills from working as a TA and owning your own consultancy business. You should get a job in no time! Thanks for the lovely comment!

I recently interviewed for a Young People’s Practitioner post which was practice for AP interviews I have coming up. What I found was while I had no trouble reflecting (what happened, how I felt, what I took away - what went well, not well and what i’d do similar/diff in the future applied to the role), I struggled finding examples to show? I quite honestly have never worked with a patient long-term, and honestly have never seen a practitioner act unprofessionally towards a patient, and these were 2 scenarios I was asked! Could you give any advice for this - I know I shouldn’t make anything up but I don’t want to say that i’ve never had that experience! Really afraid i’m going to be asked something similar which will trip me up in the AP interviews x

Hey Lily, congrats on the interview, sounds like you did well with reflecting! Hmm that is a tricky one... If I was asked a question that needed an example for something that I have not experienced, I would provide a hypothetical scenario. Eg. While I am lucky to have been part of a team that has never acted unprofessionally towards a patient, if I were presented with a situation where this took place for example a practitioner giving a patient their private contact details/raising their voice at a client I would do this.... You could reflect on why you would choose to act in that way. Like you said, you cannot make things up so all you can do it try your best!

Your advice on tailoring the supporting info for the applications worked and I was able to land two interviews one of which is tomorrow. Any tips on managing nerves?

Hi, because of covid this has postponed my degree classification but I have been applying and I've had an interview and I have another tomorrow! In my application I have always stated the date I will receive my classification and mentioned my confirmed grades, I don't know if this has helped compared to the experience I have! but I don't have my classification and I've received two interviews by tomorrow :)

Just a quick question, but do you think having a driving license puts you at an advantage when applying for an assistant psychologist post? I would like to apply for this position within the next 2 years but I am afraid that I may not be considered because I can't drive. I love your videos by the way! They are really helpful and they are definitely helping me in regards to my own journey :)

Thanks for the comment! I think having a driving license allows you to apply to more positions as a lot of AP roles require a car... So in that way it does give you an advantage. I would double check with the post.

Hi. I' ve got a BSc and MSc in Social and Health Psychology from the Netherlands. Do you think I need to apply to get it BPS accredited before starting to apply for AP jobs?
@SharonB
@SharonB 4 жыл бұрын
Hey, if it's a BPS accredited course then it should be fine but if not then you would have to do a conversion course. I'm not 100% sure about this, it's probably best to ask the BPS. You need graduate membership to the BPS in order to work as an AP. Hope this helps!

If u get a 2:1 as well as having the skills they ask for and being good at the interview why not, each place is different though and some ask for previous experience

Any experience can be valuable experience as long as you understand the skills u gained from it and u become reflective on what u did well and what u could improve on for others
