I’m a data analyst and would love to be an investment banker. Which of the courses will you advice I start with?

I am a second year undergraduate, international studies major. I do not have relevant experience in investment banking yet. I am planning to learn more in depth of the industry by taking a certification. Specifically I’m considering taking either CFA level 1 or Financial Modeling and Valuation Analyst from CFI from next month to bolster my competency for landing an internship. Which one would you recommend? And are there any better alternatives?

I have developed so much interest in Investment banking. Can i transition to Investment banking by doing courses? Do i need a degree or some sort of certification? Hi Yasar, the CFA is certainly an important designation which is considered as the gold standard by many people in the industry. However, the CFA requires a huge commitment and the CFA covers many topics which you don't actually need to work in equity markets.

Hi Alireza, you can become a financial analyst without a degree. Probably it'll be easier to make a transition inside a company where you already work, but it can be done and has been done.

Yes, it does. Quant skills are highly sought for. Especially if you want to work in the Trading and Brokerage or Asset Management divisions of investment banks. But many people who have been hired in M&A have studied Statistics too.
