How to Become Nearer and Dearer to God

"Being close to God" - What does that mean?
Is it possible to love Swami when we have not interacted . with Him or even seen Him? As devotees of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, we all want to be near Him and dear to Him. What is Swami's definition of nearness and dearness? And how do we develop love for Him?
