Thank you for this video, never thought it'd be so easy to bend. I made a bunch acrylic risers to display my collectible action figures with a scrap piece of acrylic I stil had laying around from the cover of my fish tank!

You can use a heater element for bigger pieces of acrylic. Also if your platform is higher you can get a sharper bend by sliding the acrylic over the edge of the platform.

For larger pieces, you probably could use a clothes iron on temp setting of about 275*F, with some parchment paper between the iron and the acrylic so that it doesn't stick to it. I'm looking into making my own large/long windshield for a scooter and will probably try the above method at some point.

What about larger pieces of acryilic, also, how to get seamless edges?
@piad2102

Use a larger stove. :)
@Dutch3DMaster
@Dutch3DMaster 11 ай бұрын
For seamless edges, go with some very toxic stuff called PlastiWeld. It requires a bit of practice to work with but with plexiglas I found it tends to work really easily due to the surface tension and capillary action sucking the stuff between the joints. In case you can't get the glue/bonding agent: sanding first, making sure it's as flat as you can get it, and maybe some Revel glue, since it can also have a good amount of capillary action due to it's fluidity.

I know nothing about electricity, but could you use the resistance inside the fishtank water warmers and extend it between 2 pieces of wood? like in the first way you show. I've seen some tutorial and they use old electric heaters and hairdryers for DIY benders, but the heaters are expensive to sacrifice and dont know wich is cheaper (in case the fishtank warmer is an option) those warmers or the hairdryer, the water warmer also has a regulator that can come handy if you could take it apart without breaking it.
@Dutch3DMaster
@Dutch3DMaster 11 ай бұрын
Superlate replay and you probably found a solution by now, but for anyone else who might have the same idea. If the fishtankwarmers do not suffer being shutdown quickly when outside of water (we had one that cut out tremendously quickly because the water wasn't cooling it down) you could try this. I would not recommend trying to mess with a thermal cutout in any way to modify them. Modifying old heaters is not something I would suggest doing unless the modification ramps voltage way down past the lethal point: you need to remember that your hands will be close to the element so any lethal voltage there might otherwise, at some point when something slips and risks falling on it make you want to grab it, and then you are in trouble. Should you do this with an unmodified heater, put a dead-man's switch of some sort in between the power supply, and specifically, one that will cutout should you get a shock (work standing up in case of working with lethal voltages preferably: should you grab a conducting element, it makes your body want to stand up rigid and loose your balance, making you break contact with this switch). I'd say the hairdryer is a cheaper option but might suffer the problem of a big amount of convection causing hot air, and maybe to much of it to reach the part you want to bend, making it more difficult to control. Disabling the fan is not a possibility, because most heating elements in hairdryers depend on the air flowing past it to not blow the thermal fuse or, in older hairdryers: making them burn out.

@tacotimmer8288

kind of late, but your best bet for that would be vacuum forming. There are tutorials online to make your own station, or maybe you can find some kind soul nearby who can lend you theirs (probably on some subreddit.) The safest option, with the best results. I wouldn't trust an oven.

@fixitsamo
@fixitsamo 6 жыл бұрын
“Plexiglass”, is really a brand of acrylic (PMMA). Over the years, Plexiglas® has been developed to cover a wide range of application areas. In its basic design it is completely colorless with excellent optical properties, but the material can be colored in an infinite variety of colors. Today PMMA (“plexiglass”) is sold under many different names, including Acrylite, Lucite and Perspex.

Would also depend on the dryer.... The ones u find in hotels (most small compact ones) are garbage & do not heat much.... This thought also occurred to me but the best salon quality dryer is between $40-$100 and I found an excellent heat gun at Harbor Freight for $15 - $22 ( additional accessories kit $6.99 ) see link: - harborfreight.com/catalogsearch/result/index/?dir=asc&order=EAScore%2Cf%2CEAFeatured+Weight%2Cf%2CSale+Rank%2Cf&q=Heat+gun PS. How to bend a plastic spoon???? Would it work if I used a hair dryer to heat up the plastic spoon? Or maybe holding the spoon kind of close to an iron? Or maybe dip the spoon "handle" in some boiling water? In your opinion, what would be the best option here... If any of them? Making christmas ornaments out of "silver" plastic spoons 😊 And instead of cutting the handle of, like I've seen other crafters do, I thought why not just bend the spoon "handle" and make that the hanger for the ornament 🙄🤔💡😃😉😉 Btw. Will it discolour the "silver" spoons? Only thing I can find here on KZbin when searching for it... Is magic tricks 😒 PLEASE REPLY 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

@sajk 3 жыл бұрын
Do not try and bend the spoon, that's impossible. Instead, only try to realize the truth...there is no spoon. Then you will see it is not the spoon that bends, it is only yourself.
