hello, i am considering a vacuum press system for my shop. I am pressing many layers of veneer (quite like the ones in your video) since you already said in a previous question that you are using standard white glue, i would like to know the time you leave the pieces in the bag. Do you leave the pump running or the bag is airtight enough? thank you in advance!

Hi Thiago, depending if your vacuum pump is equipped with a vacuum pressure switch, the pump runs continously or not. Nearly no vacuum bag is 100% air tight and loosing pressure is only a matter of time. The vacuum pressure switch is checking the bag pressure and compares the value with an preadjusted vacuum pressure. If your preadjusted vacuum pressure and bag pressure are the same, the vacuum switch stops running the vacuum pump. If the bag pressure is less than the preadjusted "desired" vacuum pressure, the vacuum switch starts running the vacuum pump until "desired" vacuum pressure is reached. If your vacuum pump system is not epuipped with a vacuum pressure switch, you should run the vacuum pump continously, to guarantee best pressing quality.

So, with the switch, it would turn on and off from time to time during the process, right? that sounds quite reasonable. i was worried i would have to run the pump continuously, it is probably not good for the equipment. But the gluing process takes the same time as in the open? just leave it pressed over night?

That's right, vacuum pump switch on and off from time to time during the pressing cycle over night. To run a vacuum pump over night continously is not a bad thing for the vacuum pump, much worse would be a constant switching on and off of the vacuum pump, with very small intervalls. If happens this, then the continously run is the better option.
