Standing on your bike is good and helps you climb but it has a consequence standing make your heart rate beats faster and will make you feel tired faster than on a saddle. If your a newbie my advice is not to stand unless it's only a few seconds. Your hands is not strong enough that's one of the reason also. Take time. Lot's of time don't hurry things.cycling is not like that.

I big tip from me, don’t always go for the first gear because even though it’s quick your legs get exhausted from the quick movement. So go to at least gear 2. Also another tip is also to increase the height of your seat. When you do this your legs will be at a longer distance from the ground which means your legs can go at their full potential to circulate the pedals with more ease.

Ride both on and off saddle for long climbs. Riding both on and off-saddle gives your different muscle groups a chance to recover. So i suggest doing on and off saddle intervals. And to ride longer off-saddle, find the right cadence and gear that works for you. Pedaling too hard or spinning too fast (or both)while off-saddle would definitely spike up your heart rate and you’ll end up with muscle cramps or getting bonked.

Just took up biking again and live in a mountainous area of Southern California. These tips were helpful as I was struggling mightily with hills and having to walk quite a bit. Today, though, I was able to do about 10 miles, and nailed all the hills, two quite long and fairly steep...while still weighing 240lbs. See how I feel in 6months when I'm 70lbs less but regardless, good technique has made a massive difference in my ability, despite my weight.

I have only been riding for a little over a month and a half, but in that time I have had another heart attack (3rd one) which kept me off the bike for a week. I just completed my first (and second) Metric Century Ride last week (I did the entire course myself a few days before the event to make sure I could do the entire 100Km within the allotted time). I am now trying to prepare for a Century Ride scheduled for the last part of September, but this one has a LOT of long hills in it up to 9% grade. Right now there is no possible way that I can complete that ride within the allotted time because it takes me so long to get up the hills. I have to do them in my lowest possible gear (34T) at 60rpm at about 3MPH but even with that I have to stop two or three times on a hill to allow my breathing to slow and my heart rate to come back down because it gets over 180bpm. I am making a little bit of progress as I found a couple hills on today's 57 mile ride that I was able to eventually make it up the hills without stopping that a month ago I had to walk the bike up, but I still have a LONG way to go before I can even think about completing the Honolulu Century Ride in September that I stupidly registered for.
@carlovillarica Жыл бұрын

when you say go slow do you shift to a heavy gear? or just continue your granny. natatakot kc pag mag slow kana sa granny at wala ka nang gear ma shift down parang mag stall ka na.

it really depends on the gradient of the climb. Just go to the gear appropriate to the climb. I personally like to still be able to spin freely (approx. 70-90rpm if kaya).
