Tips to climbing
If you are super new to cycling, practice on the flats.
Find a mantra or sing a song
Find your rhythm
Breathing through my nose - article wapo.st/2BW38tM
Don't be afraid to slow down
Not going to be a gear video
Lose weight
Take a breaks.
Practice standing up while cycling
Relax - it's easier to climb when you are relaxed.
Practice going up hills. Most important tip.
Lastly, my personal favorite tip - mentally speaking - I treat every climb the same.

Standing on your bike is good and helps you climb but it has a consequence standing make your heart rate beats faster and will make you feel tired faster than on a saddle. If your a newbie my advice is not to stand unless it's only a few seconds. Your hands is not strong enough that's one of the reason also. Take time. Lot's of time don't hurry things.cycling is not like that.

I big tip from me, don’t always go for the first gear because even though it’s quick your legs get exhausted from the quick movement. So go to at least gear 2. Also another tip is also to increase the height of your seat. When you do this your legs will be at a longer distance from the ground which means your legs can go at their full potential to circulate the pedals with more ease.

Ride both on and off saddle for long climbs. Riding both on and off-saddle gives your different muscle groups a chance to recover. So i suggest doing on and off saddle intervals. And to ride longer off-saddle, find the right cadence and gear that works for you. Pedaling too hard or spinning too fast (or both)while off-saddle would definitely spike up your heart rate and you’ll end up with muscle cramps or getting bonked.

Just took up biking again and live in a mountainous area of Southern California. These tips were helpful as I was struggling mightily with hills and having to walk quite a bit. Today, though, I was able to do about 10 miles, and nailed all the hills, two quite long and fairly steep...while still weighing 240lbs. See how I feel in 6months when I'm 70lbs less but regardless, good technique has made a massive difference in my ability, despite my weight.

@@WH6FQE It's actually sort of an advantage if you're doing mtb, in cornering you get more downforce by putting more weight into the ground. Being 135ish pounds I always struggle to find some grip on the corners even though climbs aren't too bad.

When climbing, sit on the saddle, use a light grip on the tops, and keep your head up (to open up the rib cage). Just use the legs; the rest of the body is only for balance.

It is not riding on flat roads that helps me be in better physical condition, it is the hills that help me have better health and conditioning.

I went for a group cycle tour. We were riding Trek 3700 or 3800. We were told not to stand, because it may break the chain of the cycle? how true is it?

I have only been riding for a little over a month and a half, but in that time I have had another heart attack (3rd one) which kept me off the bike for a week. I just completed my first (and second) Metric Century Ride last week (I did the entire course myself a few days before the event to make sure I could do the entire 100Km within the allotted time). I am now trying to prepare for a Century Ride scheduled for the last part of September, but this one has a LOT of long hills in it up to 9% grade. Right now there is no possible way that I can complete that ride within the allotted time because it takes me so long to get up the hills. I have to do them in my lowest possible gear (34T) at 60rpm at about 3MPH but even with that I have to stop two or three times on a hill to allow my breathing to slow and my heart rate to come back down because it gets over 180bpm. I am making a little bit of progress as I found a couple hills on today's 57 mile ride that I was able to eventually make it up the hills without stopping that a month ago I had to walk the bike up, but I still have a LONG way to go before I can even think about completing the Honolulu Century Ride in September that I stupidly registered for.

Keep at it. Climbing is usually pretty hard, but eventually you get to a point where you get faster up the climbs and can hopefully control yourself to slow down so it won't be so taxing.

Trying to look for tips about this as I'm getting started to go to work 3km(6km if going back included) by cycling. When going to work, it's easier because the asphalt was flat. But going home, road's pretty variant(down up hill with multiple non flat road) and get tired after multiple checkpoint(i just call some area like that) so hope this help. Also my bottom's getting hurt and uncomfortable after arrived at home so maybe I'll also look for some custom saddle later on.

Great. How to change gears while climbing? Or what gear should i try climbing all the way up?
@carlovillarica
@carlovillarica 3 жыл бұрын
I'm going to have difficulty explaining how to change gears while climbing. All I can say is that there is a certain timing to it and pedal slowly as you change the gear. As for the gear while climbing, it really depends on the gradient of the climb, your preferred cadence, the terrain. So lots of factors. Best to just go do it and see what works.

Yes but depends on the cogs ratio. A 32 teeth cogs and a 22 teeth chainring from 3by set up is definitely for uphill

@carlovillarica
@carlovillarica 3 жыл бұрын
The number of gears is not really an issue when climbing. The key is to look at gear ratio. Less teeth in front and more teeth in the back means easier climbing. So even if you only had one gear, but the gear in front was a 30 and the gear in the back a 42, it will be easier to climb.

Ok so i just got a new bike its a cult devotion its a bmx bike and I’m looking is there is anyway to go up a hill without getting super tired (i live in a neighborhood so not very steep but very long hills) and i have been riding bmx for 4-5 years
@carlovillarica
@carlovillarica 3 жыл бұрын
I haven't really tried cycling with a bmx, but I'm guessing it's not the most efficient going up a hill. I guess the way to do it would be to go very slow... or just walk.

Sir question, when to shift gears when climbing? Before the climb or while in the middle of the climb?
@carlovillarica
@carlovillarica 3 жыл бұрын
Uhm... hard to explain here, but I would say, shift gears depending on how hard the pedals feel. If you feel it getting harder, than go ahead and shift. If you aren't confident, you can shift to a lighter gear before the climb.

@carlovillarica

it really depends on the gradient of the climb. Just go to the gear appropriate to the climb. I personally like to still be able to spin freely (approx. 70-90rpm if kaya).

This bike was really easy to assemble kzbin.infoUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA and required very few adjustments out of the box. The wheels did not require any truing/adjustments. The frame had some small scratches, but nothing major.I did replace the seat though - the seat it came with was very uncomfortable. The tires need to be re-inflated every 4-5 days, but this appears to be quite common for the narrow 700x25 tires.Overall, in my opinion, this bike looks and rides like a much more expensive bike.

@carlovillarica
@carlovillarica 4 жыл бұрын
Try the easy part of Budlaan. Budlaan to me has two parts. Before the gym and after the gym. Before the gym is a good beginner climb. Kay most of it is rolling with a short steep climb before the gym. So plenty of opportunities to rest while bike is moving. The climb after the gym is killer. haha So only go there when you are feeling confident.
