Audi A6 C5 with 2.4 (looks exactly the same under the hood), didn't know how to do it even after reading over 14 different posts on dedicated A6 C5 forum. If that helps then you're my hero

The heater hose on my 05 Passsat 1.8L won't budge using a decent amount of force and I don't want to break off the heater core pipe. Is there any other way to bleed the air out after changing the coolant? Does squeezing the upper and lower radiator hoses while the engine is running help? How will I know if there's still air in the system? Will the engine overheat? Will the heater not work? Thanks for any suggestions.

Good info, thanks. I've seen other videos where they leave the coolant tank cap off, I think that may facilitate air flow. ?? its just what I saw. Note this step is the get coolant into the heater core. The second step (not in the video) is the run the vehicle with the cap off the bottle. This lets the air out of the system. I have had 2.8, 3.0, 2.0 turbo and 2.0 TDI. I found the one key is to fill the tank halfway below the min and bottom of the tank, so there is room for the bottle to fill up and not overflow as you slowly raise and lower the RPM. No science behind that, It just seemed to work. Then raise to 200 RPM and hold, then turn off car, let sit and add a little coolant, and repeat, then run with cap on bottle.

Good info, thanks. Regarding the heater core hose. BE VERY CAREFUL. If you are unsure on this process, I suggest a professional radiator shop. They will probably use a pressure/vacuum bleeder and it will take them a few minutes. They may not even touch that hose. If you try it, use a pick tool to get under the hose. The idea is to separate the hose from the n..i.pp. Try not to puncture the hose. I suggest the 45 degree angle one. You work it in every 1/4 inch all the way around. I can see putting a spritz of WD40 under there and letting it sit for 30 min. With good mechanics gloves you can then try to twist the hose, just left to right, do not push it down or up or sideways, just twist. If that doesn't work you can try small to medium channel lock pliers. Just enough force to grip the hose, then work it back and forth. That usually should break it loose.

He did say he didn't work on volkswagens. If you want to do a coolant flush you have to undo the little screw thats about under and just left of where the driver side car lights are. You can't see this screw as it's behind the front bumper which you might have to take off unless you get your head underneath the front of the car. It's plastic and about the thickness of a dime and a little behind a plastic guard. Once you unscrew this it will drain the coolant completely even whats in the radiator. What I still haven't figured out is how to drain the engine block.

to make it easier, simply cup your hands and blow into the coolant reservoir opening without unbolting it. It will force air out super fast. Drive a few miles. Repeat until the air is completely purged.

Yo you might have succes with this method but on the v6 there is either 1 or 2 more bleeding points that need to be bleed. Or you can use a vuccum coolant tool to refill it with little to no problem. -a vw guy

@@vortexor1 Yes, it was engine head, the gum between engine and head was leaking antifreeze. Check if your engine system does it. Go to a mechanic, this procedure cost cheap, 10-20 euro.
