One more thing to add. If you want a really stiff brake lever, you can fit the wheel but remove the brake pads. Add something thinner than the pads between the pistons and the disk and fill the system through the lever side. This way you add excess oil and the lever becomes stiffer.

Only thing is , when u remove the hoses to put the screw back in, your putting air back into the system, there should be another lock screw to tighten first before you unscrew the hoses so no air is drawn in

@wigma10 жыл бұрын
what you're supposed to do is before you fit the syringes is lock the red clamp and pull on the plunger to create a vacuum to cause any excess air to raise to the surface as most brakes only have about 10mm of fluid any air will make it feel "spongy" as air compresses and fluid doesn't although all avid brakes have a overflow system so they will never be truly solid as its a safety feature sram use to stop you stabbing yourself with the brake lever should you fall off and the lever hit you. hope this helps
@mojonoscope10 жыл бұрын
Basically, the main reason the break would feel bad is because of any air in the system. So if the brake still felt spongy or if the brake was lacking power when in use, it means that air is in the system still. So if it felt like that straight after a bleed, you would simply need to repeat the bleed process again to get a better result. Doesn't often happen but can do, especially with avids as they are a bit trickier to bleed than other systems! Hope that helps!

@bash838454 жыл бұрын
That's the issue I'm having with this exact brake setup now.
@allthingsbike27203 жыл бұрын
Don't forget to create a vacuum by gently pulling on the plunger and then push the plunger with similar force ,this will pressurise the system. Then start squeezing the brake lever whilst the syringe is in a vertical position. The video suggests 10 times, but basically do it until there are no more bubbles at all coming from the brake lever reservoir. Move the brake lever back to it's normal position and then unscrew the syringe and immediately and carefully replace the screw.

viscosity and stability to compression
@roythearcher4 жыл бұрын
@@Klemhaken mineral oil is , well, oil and DOT4/5.1 is Ethylene Glycol based. The latter is used extensively in motor vehicles due to its availability, low cost , Low viscocity at low temperatures, good performance at higher temperatures, good compressive qualities and anti corrosive properties within braking systems. Mineral Oil is used mainly because of its anti corrosive properties and easy availability. It's viscocity is usually slightly higher than DOT4/5.1 but in these "simple" systems it's not an issue. It's also much kinder to the environment (And your paintwork/hands) as oils can be made bio-degradeable. Whereas Etylene Glycol is poisonous to most forms of life but has a sweet taste and smell. It can also cause long term damage to water courses and wildlife and needs careful disposal. It's also not a thing you want to get on your skin or your paintwork either. Dangerous huh?

Of course you CAN actually bleed without the threaded adapters using just the syringe and pressing it tightly into bleed hole, but it's really messy and not as reliable.
