Another tip is to sit in a large playpen with them and stay in the same spot and let them explore around you. I think this would really help a shy, scared piggie come out of their shell! :)

Whenever I peak into Cookie's cage, (my little boy, he's almost a year, a gorgeous long haired and happy piggie) he always comes out to look at me and he popcorns, our routine for play time is usually around mid day or night time, (because I have school work during the day) he comes out into the open and waits for me to pick him up. I have a plastic sheet that I put over my bed, and I'll lay a large blanket over me and let him wander a bit, making sure he doesn't get hurt. He only runs around when it's dark or he has something covering him, and I think this is because when I first got him, he was around 2-3 months, I would let him explore with me on my bed while I did my school work on my laptop, he's always been very clingy and loves cuddling inside my sweatshirt. He's a very picky eater so I was hard to find treats that he liked. I love him so much. I've been spending more time with him because his cage mate died (she was very sick when we got her, and was also inbred) her name was Momo and she only lived to be 5 months, we had to put her down because she refused to eat and couldn't stand up on her own, she could barely even sit up.. I fed her by hand and gave her water from a syringe for a bit, but it got to the point where she was losing weight and looked terrible. I miss her so much and still cry about it because I adored her and loved her with all my heart. I love your channel and I've been watching your videos since before I got Cookie. You've been so helpful and I didn't mean to write a book here, but I hope you see this. Thank you for all the help 💕

Two nights ago I tried the paws-in-hand thing and they actually took to it immediately to get their treat. The next morning they are so hand friendly, I couldn't believe these were the same guinea pigs! WOW! Best tip ever!!!

My piggie (Oreo) I have had for a year and a half now and he’s nearly 2. When I first bonded with him I would let roam around anywhere he feels comfortable and I also found if you hold them. I used to watch tv while he sat on my lap calmly and I still do this xx

I had gotten my GP from a local trusted pet shop, I picked him out and drove home, we put him in a cage in a quiet yet well populated area of the house and he loves/loved being around me and others and it was great having him trust me so easily! i got my first guinea pig in august, and my second about 5 or 6 weeks later. after my first one settled in to the new environment she would run up to my cage when i got home and squeak really loudly and popcorn and we would play for a while. however, after we got the second she stopped. she still peeks her head out when i get home, but i'm wondering if maybe the second one had some sort of mental effect on the first one? the second one squeaks a lot more than the first one, and is also more willing to let people hold her.
