I'm just learning the points game, 2 questions.. 1. When you saw the 30% transfer bonus, should you transfer all of your points that get multiplied 1.3 and then later you can transfer the unused points somewhere else you may need them? 2. Trying to decide between CSR / CSP / CVX, goal is for lounge access a few regular flights a year and when points allow business class flights for 2.
@ChaseYokoyama8 ай бұрын
Congratulations on starting your journey with points! Welcome to the club 👏🏽 1. I wouldn't transfer all of my points. Chase points are more valuable than airline points mainly because they offer more flexibility. So I would either transfer as many points as you are about to use for an upcoming flight or transfer points to a program that you KNOW you will use eventually. Like if I knew I would use Virgin points in the future then I would send a few over just to take slight advantage of the transfer bonus. 2. CSP wont give you lounge access so it would be VX or the CSR. The VX is way easier to break even with as it requires less credits / benefits to take advantage of. I think the VX is a better start into the "premium" travel card world because it has a lower annual fee, less credits and benefits to juggle, and it has great catch all reward multiplier.

Thanks so much for this video! This is by far the most impressive point redemption I've seen on KZbin for an ANA flight (41c/pt is God-level lol), and I love it because it's perfect for me! I'm a CA girl studying abroad in Japan so I frequently fly a similar route, and ANA is my fave airline. I started my Chase credit card journey this year for the purpose of accomplishing what you show us here, so this breakdown was super helpful. The plan is to take a free, business class seat for my trip home next year. Wish me luck :D

Marriott's exchange rate is indeed 3 points per 1 mile but bear in mind it earns 3 points per dollar, so basically same 1:1. And you get 25% bonus mile if you exchange in lump sum.
@ChaseYokoyama11 ай бұрын
well it depends what you are buying. for example, the CSP earns 1x on general purchases while the Marriott Brilliant earns 2x on those same purchases. But since you transfer Marriott at 3:1 vs Chase's 1:1, you would be better off spending on ur CSP over the Marriott card because although it gives you less points, you would need less points to transfer over to Marriott.

I'm so lost trying to use my points to book B-class tickets to Japan, I've just been paying cash -- huge burn. Every time I try to search for a R/T ticket using points, for example it says, 100K-200K, and says "for one-way" after I search for R/T. How are people getting R/T B-class ANA tickets for ~100K points total? I'm so lost trying to use my points. I consider myself a pretty smart guy, but I'm so lost going through all this. I have points racking up, but don't know how to use them.
@ChaseYokoyama7 ай бұрын
Which points are you racking up? Chase, Virgin, ANA? Which website are you searching on? If you are searching on United's website the points cost is irrelevant if you are trying to book ANA with Virgin points. You just want to make sure the option to pay with points is there. Then that means the flight is likely available to be purchased with points through Virgin. Then you would look at Virgins award chart for the actual price of the flight as opposed to what price ANA or United has it listed as
@STR8WESTCOASTN7 ай бұрын
@@ChaseYokoyama I have mostly Chase UR points, but also have a decent amount of CapitalOne points. I think I gotcha, but when I check Virgins website to search, and "show price in points", I get this message, "Sorry, no reward flights are available for your search. Try using our Reward seat checker to find availability". I'm searching all the way until the max available search time frame, which is March 5-12, 2025 (even though these aren't the dates I want to fly". If I use "Seat checker" as the message says, it only shows 3 origin destination in England (I believe). Also, it's hard for me to plan a vacation a year in advance. Usually, it's within 2-3 months. Is this a problem when using points to book?
@jsantos66907 ай бұрын
Be cautious when considering the ANA Mileage Club program; many have found it lacking compared to other airlines' offerings. Despite purchasing a round-trip business class ticket, you may find that only part of your journey is awarded at this level, leaving you to return in coach. Although it's suggested you can upgrade by calling if award seats become available, be prepared for potentially long hold times without guarantee of success. Additionally, points for a round-trip business class seat are deducted, yet no refund is offered for the downgrade to coach. Even if business class seats remain available, don't expect an automatic upgrade.

If you find something please share, because I just ended up booking an economy flight with 55k points through united. The 70K on virgin is round trip so half of that would be 35K for a one way redemption. In his vlog though it showed the price of one way being about 1000 dollars. Good question but like Ryan said it is 70k for business class roundtrip with virgin atlantic. So for a one way business class flight it would be half that amount (35k). Also I found that ANA one way business class flights on average are over $2,000 from Honolulu to Tokyo. In the video I mentioned that the cash price I was seeing at the time of booking ($11,300) was wayyy more expensive that usual. That's why I calculated the CPP of both using a conservative $2,000 ticket price with the $11,300 ticket price that I saw as well.

the 35,000 is business class but just one way. If you are referring to the screenshot of the award chart that I showed in the video theres the biz class column with 70,000. That 70,000 is for a roundtrip while one way would be half of that : 35,000. Then when I transferred my Chase points to Virgin, there was a 30% transfer bonus. thats how I turned 27,000 chase points to 35,100 virgin points

How is he finding these flights for low miles? I keep finding flights for over 200k miles 😭😭😭

the flight route, flight date, and time that you are searching are all variables that will change the price. Also keep in mind that I booked on Virgin which cost less than what you see on United's website.

This video is kind of misleading. Of course you can get that cheap fare if you are already half way to Japan! I can never get VA to get me any awards from DFW to Japan!
@ChaseYokoyama11 ай бұрын
yes thats true its cheaper flying from Hawaii, for central USA its about 47,500 points one way. which is still good value considering elsewhere you will pay at least twice that amount.

Hi Chase thanks for this informative video. One questions how are you able to determine that the flight is going to be a business class when in the Virgin Atlantic chart the 35000 points is pertaining to Economy. Thanks!
@ChaseYokoyama10 ай бұрын
I should have explained it better but the Virgin chart shows the roundtrip total. So for one way tickets, you half whatever value you see there. That's why my one way business class flight was 35,000 instead of the full 70,000 for round trip

All the Airline & Hotel Brands believe in Polygamy with multiple partners 😂Loved this break-down on your redemption Chase- it's cool to see first-hand examples of putting CC points to work for high value!
