Panda mom, of course, would nurse her babies, but sometimes panda mom doesn’t have enough energy to nurse two cubs, this is where nannies jump in to help. Like most of the other animals, the cubs are most active when they just finish drinking milk, but that's when the mothers need rest and quietness the most. So the nannies will take the cubs away temporarily so the mothers are able to take a break. Additionally, some regular health checks on a daily basis are also necessary for baby pandas to ensure they are in a healthy condition.

This is as well as learning that baby pandas will only go toilet when their mum stimulates them has lead to the most successful captive breeding program.. er ever! so in nature when I female has 2 Cubs one will get all the attention unfortunately. This behaviour continued in captivity ( probably hardwired ) so they take one baby, feed it using formula and keep it in an incubator while mum feeds and plays with her other baby. Then they bribe her to let them take this one and bring the other back. It’s assumed the mum thinks they are the same baby and in reality this means we get 2 successful babies per mum. Nutrition is not a problem in captivity ( as it may have been in the wild, which lead to this behaviour of making sure 1 is successful ) So this is what is happening here. Personally I like to think the mum knows and is just taking the bribes and like oh you got Timmy today? I’ll keep Tildy then 🤣

The one Mama didn't want to give up her baby but wanted the apple so bad. I saw the way she looked at the nanny. I would have given Mama the apple honey water with extra honey lol... So adorable.

Panda mom's are amazing. They take care of their Cubs so well. The veterinarian's only want to make sure the Cubs are being feed and that they are healthy. Mom panda understands this. Maybe not, but the staff are doing a great job in looking after the Cubs 🐼😇❤😇🐼

Yes they bring them back to Mama after they have rested awhile and baby had a check up with the doc or went out to play at kindergarten with the other cubbies then they bring baby back to mom. No worries.

Not sure how it is in this facility but in some breeding facilities, they do get really separated forever from their baby at some point after they grow a bit more. So if the mother panda have already experienced the separation i d understand they would be unwilling to separate with their baby at all time.

Actually, pandas are some of the sturdies creatures alive. I’ve seen one only maybe 6 months old fall from a 20 foot tree and act like absolutely nothing happened with no injuries. They are amazing creatures.
