Stayed at some fancy hotel in Osaka on holidays. Every day I saw these businessmen check out and as they left there was a line of both hotel staff and I think it was his employees bowing as they got into their car. One old man had a least a dozen people lined on both sides bowing at the entrance. It was so awkward as I walked pass to go get my ramen.

yeah, Japanese aren't really into physical contact type of greeting. I lived in japan for a year and I did handshake only for few times with my professors when the situation is appropriate.
@vinesbr9616
@vinesbr9616 6 жыл бұрын
I had the opportunity to meat and guide a japanese professor at my university and he always shaked hands with everyone, but probably because he got used to it since he visited many foreign countries already. In my opinion, shaking hands it's not a problem, even if you are visiting Japan, they'll probably won't mind much with foreigners. But you should bow whenever possible. I my case again, I shaked hands because he gave his hands to me first, otherwise I would have stayed only with the bow. In the business world it might be different, idk.

Yeah man. Physical contact isn't really appropriate in Japan unless you're friends with the person. Handshaking is a western custom and even in Afghanistan the people there don't normally shake hands either, only the elders who have contact with military personell tend to shake hands and even then it's pretty uncommon. I would say to avoid it unless the person offers you their hand first.

This video about Japanese business etiquette is so important when someone meets somebody in a company. I've read on the web, that if the Japanese contact is in the meeting, the negotiation is running well, but if this contact does not appear there is something bad with the deal. Is that true?. Bowing is important more than handshaking when you greet. Meishi and meishi ire are key words for business culture.
