Eshaku: 15°: A light bow - meeting someone for the first time - saying hi (greeting) to neighbors - someone keeps an elevator door open for you - accidentally bumping into someone Keirei: 30° AKA a salute: a polite bow commonly used in business situations - at a job interview or audition - at a reception Saikeirei: 45°: the most polite and respectful bow, shows deep appreciation or apology - apologizing at work - thanking people who came to watch your show Bonus: Dogeza - apologize sincerely - on the phone

Dogeza took me by surprise when I visited. A restaurant manager apologized for and oversight (which was very minor to me and my friends) but he dropped to the ground and presented his business card above his head. It was pretty amazing since I wasn't aware. Thanks for teaching me the word. :)

Stayed at some fancy hotel in Osaka on holidays. Every day I saw these businessmen check out and as they left there was a line of both hotel staff and I think it was his employees bowing as they got into their car. One old man had a least a dozen people lined on both sides bowing at the entrance. It was so awkward as I walked pass to go get my ramen.

yeah, Japanese aren't really into physical contact type of greeting. I lived in japan for a year and I did handshake only for few times with my professors when the situation is appropriate.
@vinesbr9616
@vinesbr9616 7 жыл бұрын
I had the opportunity to meat and guide a japanese professor at my university and he always shaked hands with everyone, but probably because he got used to it since he visited many foreign countries already. In my opinion, shaking hands it's not a problem, even if you are visiting Japan, they'll probably won't mind much with foreigners. But you should bow whenever possible. I my case again, I shaked hands because he gave his hands to me first, otherwise I would have stayed only with the bow. In the business world it might be different, idk.

Yeah man. Physical contact isn't really appropriate in Japan unless you're friends with the person. Handshaking is a western custom and even in Afghanistan the people there don't normally shake hands either, only the elders who have contact with military personell tend to shake hands and even then it's pretty uncommon. I would say to avoid it unless the person offers you their hand first.

I am only 14 and I have been learning japanese through you guys. First I would like to say thank you. I am only a "Beginner" so I would like to know if you could make a video on how to use hai,so desu and the other variations. I love japan and all it's quirks. Sorry if my question seems different I have always wanted to know that
@timmyteaches7663
@timmyteaches7663 7 жыл бұрын
Ayanna Branch that's such a typical otaku question... you don't need a video for those 2 words.. hai means anything involving "yes" and so desu is used for so many different things a video would be an hour long. Just know that so desu can be used for pretty much anything. It just means "that's so" or "it is" or "i agree with what you're saying" or "so then.." with the hundreds and hundreds of videos they have already on the channel, they've already gone over this. You just have to look.
