I learnt in swing on my own using a normal kid's plastic ball that has seam pattern at centre. Initially, I also struggled to inswing the ball and I watched lot of videos explaining the same technique similar to this video. The problem with this technique is most of the times your release will be a scrambled seam. So, if you are lucky it will swing into the right hand batsman if the release is correct i.e., an upright seam position pointing towards leg slip/fine leg. So, I tried to correct my release with same technique by observing it in the video of my release recorded with my phone. However, It didn't work for me. So what worked for me was, ROTATING MY WRIST TOWARDS LEG SLIP DURING RELEASE. After learning this, I was able to swing-in but my pace dropped a bit due to that wrist rotation adjustment. I continued practising this with plastic ball and was able to achieve both pace and inswing. The idea is, only you have to figure out yourself that how you are going to achieve that seam position by making adjustment in your action and release. For some people in my cricketing circle, it works by keeping natural wrist release but ny delivering the ball from left side of their head (check Mohd. Asif's coaching video on swing). Good luck ! Being able to impart the revolutions is an important part of swing. If your grip is not comfortable, it can not happen. The shiny side theory works differently in different stages. When the ball is new and both sides are shiny, it will all depend on where the seam lands.

i use my thumb for out and in swinger.i twist the thumb a little left for the inswinger, and a little right for outswinger... also I need to adjust wrist for a better result....but the thumb alone can do wonders. :)

It works but not much in professional cricket. I had the same action but it is highly predictable. Predictable part is inside-out arm movement. If you are facing him, you will be able to judge the swing after 2-3 deliveries. Right way - The arm movement should be the same for in swing and out swing - keep it straight. Only the grip and release changes. Keep the index finger and middle finger close. Note that index finger is shorter than the middle finger. We have to use this natural feature to create in swing and out swing. Search KZbin for Anderson’s tutorial for swing bowling. The video shows the same thing.

The best example of an inswinger is the one that Akram bowled to Kiran more in 92 world cup. More somehow ducked the Yorker but in attempting to take a single he was run out by Akram's direct throw. Watch that bowl and u will know all about inswinging Yorker.

For a fast bowler, ideally the knee must not bend....that way he can generate more pace......but more the waist bends more the zip to the delivery. Although he is right when bringing his arm close to the ear for an inswinger.....he is not bending his waist but knees....and thus very weak delivery.
