every few french braids, don’t add more hair for a couple folds and then resume french braiding. this allows more movement :)

With the forelock I always do it slightly looser then thread the plait back up through the braid and tuck it in x

You can also use it with black electric tape. Rubber bands can tear the hair if you leave it in for a long time. Black electric tape doesn't tear the hair, doesn't leave a resudue unlike scotch tape, and is black so it still looks professional.

Everyone in the comments is worried about her pulling the hair too hard. Guys horses dont have a lot of nerves in the mane. They can barely feel it. Plus if it hurts then they will 100% let you know. I'm more worried about the fact that she says she uses sugar water to make the hair sticky. I feel like that can be irritating to the skin and it will definitely attract insects.

I know this is a year late, but a tip for minis is to split the mane in two right down the middle. And then do a running braid on each side. Kinda like pigtails.

isnt pulling a way to shorten a horses mane without cutting it? because the horse doesnt feel much sensation in its mane area? so a tight looking braid shouldnt hurt it at all right? like someone please let these people know it doesnt hurt the horse if im not mistaken. like im pretty sure putting a halloween costume on your dog is more "cruel" than braiding a horses mane

It actually does hurt :) it’s when they put their necks down the actual skin on their neck can’t stretch. It’s kinda similar how when we have super tight ponytails or braids and it pulls on our scalps. Unless it’s for a show just keep them loose
