Its amazing what techniques can be used cross industry. Im using this tutorial for braiding cables, the wires interleaving like this provides a natural shielding to interference from radio waves/emf.

I think if you keep your extra length of strands wound in "bobbins" you'll be able to keep the long strands from becoming tangled. Just use rubber bands on the "bobbins" to keep the from unwinding while you're working, then periodically take off the rubber bands and unwind more of the strands, then replace rubber bands and keep braiding. By the way I love this video as it's very clear and helpful. Thank you.

No kidding! This was the first one I ever watched; the first time I EVER branched out on a braiding thing beyond a basic three strand braid. Ooo i was nervous about trying. But your demo made it clear as a bell and easy as pie. I really went to town. Then. A long lapse without braiding (everything in the house lol) when I got the urge to fo some. But I needed a refresher and came to the videos. I chose probably the first one up. Lo- n behold, that different tutorial did a little differently, somehow. I thot,- hey, that's not what i did before! I looked this tutorial up and, how easy it is. All that to say, yes. i agree with commentor before me. VERY EASY TO FOLLOW. GREAT JOB.

Great explanation Thank you! I didn't read too far down so I don't know if some one already suggested this to you but a great way to end the twisted and tangled cords is to use Bobbins. They are found in stores or sites that carry kumihimo products. The Bobbin's come in 3 different sizes and are used specifically for dealing with extremely long strands of cords used in kumihimo, but really there are many ways across many crafts to use them. Hope that helps.

Awesome video! I arrived at KZbin to help me with making a 4 wire braided audio cable. The braided wire helps to eliminate noise and interference that can happen with un-braided wire. OMG Lady! This is me looking for a 4 cord strand: Video of person explaining a ton of useless information like..I'm going to spend the first 3 minutes explaining how I'm using suede faux flat edge cord of Blah blah brand, and then I'm going to put my hands and fingers all over the place so you can't see what I'm doing, and make the verbal instructions so very frustrating and confusing like..take the far left strand, it's going to wrap around, and under and do this..then (stops talking while demonstrating..with of course, hands in front of the camera so you can't see anything! Arggg! This is You: '2 steps. Repeating. That's it.' Why can't every youtube instructional guide be this simple??!! Thanks so much!!

A tip to prevent the tangling of long strands. Wouldn't it be easier to wind the long ends round a home made cardboard bobbin? To prevent unravelling cut a small slot in cardboard and push the twine through.
