I've watched your videos for some time now but always kept trying those 200 yard approach shots and missing into trouble. Finally started splitting them in two shots and seeing results from the first time. I have also found that my confidence and consistency has improved from constantly hitting the ball where I want by using clubs I'm more confident with and along with it my enjoyment. I love the game now and hopefully my handicap will continue trending down. Oh, and that boost in confidence is allowing me to hit some of those long approaches when there isn't much trouble to get into. One last thing is Didi has shown me to embrace my swing, own it, and quit trying to swing like a tour pro. Now I don't agonize over is every little thing perfect and just hit the flipping ball. You guys are great!

I set my limit for approach shots at 180 yards, its all about hitting the shot you know you can hit instead of trying the shot you would like to hit. Its much easier hitting 2 full short iron/wedge shots than a 5 wood and lob wedge from the shit. It does wonders for you confidence being able to hit 2 good shots one after the other. The only hard bit is sticking to your own approach limit

I learned this lesson in HS with match play format. Where accuracy and confidence tend to bring you winning matches. Why bomb the ball all over the place trying to show off when you can be methodical and precise with a great iron/short game. In the 3 years I played on the HS team I can’t even count how many times I’d just tee off with my go to 6 iron and nail it right down the middle of the fairway with the perfect 7-8i approach. If you can putt within the distance of the flagstick to the hole you can make some really good cards.

Don't know how badly I needed this video. I work for a Japanese company with forced participation in the company golf tournament and forced betting (if I come in last I pony up on average $800) So golf has been kinda traumatic for me. I started golf a little less than a year ago. I have been contemplating just using a club to get me to 150yards until i get to the green, this video is perfect. Thanks for the videos!
@sweetswing15 жыл бұрын
Yes Tom, you can follow that concept and have much more success. Or even find a 5 hybrid or 7 wood. They are very easy to hit. The 7 wood is a really great club. Then just work on your short game and putting. Also that's messed up they force you to bet. Do you get strokes or are you playing them straight up?

For some reason Japan doesnt really follow the handicap system apparently. Everyone’s handicaps are decided by the company (golf committee) bunch’s higher ups that decide . For some reason the handicaps applie by half’s of the rounds. They start most beginners at 18 handicap for each half accountthe round , they gave me 11 because I’m young and strong... for every $100 won your handicap goes down by 1. And vise versa. Next to ornament is tomorrow. Thank yo for the advice about the 7 wood or 5 hybrid. I only have driver to 5 iron I can afford right now. But seeing a course played with an 8 iron gave me hope

Even though this topic was posted over a year ago I came across it in July 2020. I applied this philosophy/methodology in July to one of the golf courses hear in Florida that I typically score in the 90s from the tees rated at 70.6/123. I used a 3 wood, 7, 8, PW, AW and a sand wedge twice the whole course and scored an 84. It took a lot of discipline not to use my driver of the tee and get over the stress of not using it. But once I adjusted my attitude to being just stress free, relax and let the clubs give me the best opportunity, I was amazed and felt I had made a break through in my game. Thank you so much for your commitment to "Joes" like me in helping us become better playas! I now make smart choices because of my enlightenment and disregard the commercial advice. The Way of the Playa is the true path to a better game. I am not giving up my driver but have worked on more confidence and commitment with it at the right time to use it. Not on every 4 and 5 par. Thank you sir!

Great video again. Thank you Matt!! Very inspiring & still best yt-golf channel. I think, psychologically, the hardest trial in Golf is to break 80 and to get in single hdc-scores. Breaking 70, of course is even harder but, to be honest, far out of reach for most of all those, who earn their money with other things than golf. I could imagine, that many of your subscribers (like me) love to get more „how to break 80“-instruction. Your 6-6-6 method vid was great.

Yes sir, I agree - it's all in the mind and having self-belief and at the same time lowerin expectations. I am looking at a n approach shot based system. Picking two different distances to hit into the green and then hitting the tee shot to get me there. I will take all my longer clubs and then only the two or 3 favorite clubs to approach with and see how we go. It will rely on knowing your distances, hitting the comfortable shot, hitting to your approach distance, getting up n down and removing decision paralysis. I will test it this week for you big dog!

@GolfSidekick5 жыл бұрын
Dude the whole round was a constant discomfort which made me think, man if these guys are comfortable over the shots, then it will be even better. I only started getting comfortable around hole 11 so there was some good golf there but this wasn't low stress golf for me because it's not how I play and most of the shots were new just to prove that if you have these shots already, you're gonna ace it. Like for me, left hand after 3 months without hitting a ball lefty in between right handed shots! C wedge never played before., Smart Sole wedge unwrapped it on the first hole, knock down PW, TALKING THROUGH every shot pointing out danger is also not exactly easy! I reckon if I played this with the shots that were comfy FOR ME, 2 iron, 6 iron, 50 degree, 58 degree and putter, oh baby, I reckon it's no more than a 76. So if we maximize what we got, we can shoot the lights out

If you buy them in bulk, you can get them for less than a dollar each so I usually split 100 with a buddy and that lasts me most of the season. I've been doing it for years and its been really nice. As long as you don't mind logos and marker marks on the balls from other players.

Okay maybe in Malaysia - I will find a cheap golf course and go do it. All the expensive ones I wanna experience the course right handed and I am on a mission to play more new courses

Holy shit I thought you were gonna cream that monkey with the drive on 1. I don't know what impresses me more: your concentration or the monkey's DGAF attitude.

Was just thinking how tragic it would've been if he beamed that monkey.

Planted two feathers today and got one birdie. Still trying to break the 80 barrier for 18 holes.

So I have 2 fave clubs, my 8 iron which goes 130-140, and my 63 lob which I do very well with 40 yds in. Should I play to both yardages depending on hole length?
@edgemasterrlol5 жыл бұрын
When you layup to prepare your approach on the green shot, you ideally want the ball to be around 130-140 or 40 yards to be as comfortable as possible to get it on the green. So for your 1st (par 4) or 2nd shot (par 5) you want to lay it up as much as close as possible to your favorite yardage which will leave you stress-free on your approach shot. Of course, it depends on the hole lenght, sometimes you won't be able to lay it up at the desired distance but overall it is the right strategy to adopt until you become comfortable with multiple distances.

Absolutely. Work on your game off the course, but PLAY what you know on the course....
