I actually think that book combined with Xinfeng's A Practical Guide to Quantitative Finance interviews would be perfect for preparation on the technical side of things. Having the options knowledge and partaking in some trading is great, but there is also a huge component of the interview that's based on probability/math questions and Xinfeng's book is great for this.

I don't know if this still applies, but if you want to be a trader, definitely maths, with a minor in CS/data science/stats (you want maths+stats+some coding). If you're shooting for QD instead, then CS major is more appealing. Hit me up if you need help with those choices it can be confusing/hard

Is it ok to do math without specific finance knowledge? I love my math program (undergrad) but as I get into higher levels it’s all abstract and proof based. Are quant positions open to people with the abstract background? I personally really enjoy that part of math. I do have some programming experience (basic Java). I’d like to complete my PhD (been a goal of mine for a long time). Would a math PhD be ok to transition into quant finance? Idk if it’s exactly what I want to do but given the ability to apply high level math to new research it seems like a good fit for me. Research is what I want to do, to sum it up.

Wait, are you saying this book is all i need irrespective of background? I have a repository of "must read" (from those written by Dan Stefanica to those written by Ronald Meester and Paul). In fact, the estimated period to complete these books (self-study) is about 3-5yrs for me. Just to be clear, 1- are you saying the book you recommended is the best to start with while others can serve as supplement? 2- irrespective of background, the recommended book is all i need? 3- or are you specifically referring to those with STEM background? *If this helps, i am a senior and studying towards a degree in Finance (which is not maths heavy). What about a background in Chemical Production and Power Engineering Technology? (have studied calculus for P&ID controllers (proportional, integral, derivative controllers for petrochemical processes). I am interested in knowing if the calculus function 'jerk' (the derivative of acceleration with respect to time) would be beneficial in finance, specifically trying to enter into a trade as it is accelerating hard upwards. Jerk(or surge)= m/s3, meters per second cubed. In finance case, it could money (vector) per second per second per second. Has anyone come to you with this before?
