How did you get the pods to just mount up like that any brackets had to be made or just kinda it holds it self in place I’m confused and I’m doing a tail light build soon and would love to have pods as reverse lights

At 7:37 it shows where I drilled a hole in the back of the tail light. All that was used to hold it was a bolt 👍🏻

You might be able to bake them, but with my experience I have always had to cut them open.

for the led pod can't you just splice into the wiring that is for the reverse plug in wire (on the set of taillight) instead of splicing it in to the OEM wiring harness from the truck

A lot of times I see that the adhesive that is used on taillights is different and less flexible than whats typically on headlights. With this particular set it was much easier to cut the lens apart vs risking melting them when trying to separate them with heat!

For future reference you could have put the tail lights in the oven for 15 minutes at 250ﾟ. That would have loosened up the glue on the enough to pry apart carefully.

In most cases I have noticed that for some reason tail lights use a different adhesive from a lot of headlights I’ve built. When building headlights that’s exactly what I do, unfortunately it’s not always the case with tail lights 🥲

For the front, where do you get the head lights? The original went the projector and the new ones are. Did you also have to buy an adapter?

07THE19 Those Headlights are replica projectors so they were plug and play. No need for the adapter 👍🏻

I’m doing exactly this right now. I just remembered my led pods aren’t here yet so now I’m at a stand still. I don’t want to drill the holes and paint them until I get the pods so I drill the correct size hole. I’m sort of a perfectionist so I spend forever cleaning up where the dremel cut. I sill say one thing not in the video that really kicked my a$$ for a minute was the black glue puddy stuff that’s used to seal around the wires. That stuff is a pain!

Yeah I know how you feel about the perfectionist part! Especially when you are cutting into a set of taillights that are brand new.. it’s hard essentially destroying a perfectly good set in order to later improve them. 😂 As far as the sealant used, The stuff I use I am able to squeeze it out and trace the cut line, making it honestly pretty easy. It kind of comes out like a thinner toothpaste and I just follow the cut line and it fills in most of the gap for me 👍🏻 Thank you for watching the video! Good luck on your taillight build 💪🏻

I just clear coated the bezels. It’s funny I work for valeo...I make head/tail lights for a living lol but I have a question. How did you mask off the lens to make a perfect frame around the lens?

I honestly just went with what I thought looked good lol It is a little easier if you use a more flexible masking tape, that way it doesn’t tear as easily around the corners and such.

Thank you! And no there has been zero issues. If you do them this way you just have to make sure you completely seal up all open areas that you cut through. 👌🏻

It took one can of Touch Up Express and then a can and a half of clear. But the clear coat was in smaller 8oz cans instead of 12oz

Learned my lesson on permaseal the hard way. Also butchered the first set I cut open to so scared to even try again I got a 2010 Silverado With some spyder led lights I’m attempting to do again but no way I’m paying 700-1000 for some $150 tail lights that somebody sprayed some paint on lol good video man turned out awesome! You should do the 3rd brake light as well with a frame like the tails I think it would look sick!
