Alles klar! I now know where I'm going wrong,my Lagers end up tasting like beer,I'm fermenting too warm ,the one I'm making now is sitting at 20 ° .thanks for all your useful information.Best brewing videos on you tube!

Yes, most lager kits come with a lager yeast and yes this should ideally be fermented at around 15°C to get the best results. However, may households don't have a way to keep the temperature that low and these kits are designed to give the best flavour possible at the slightly higher temps. Happy Brewing

Thanks for your reply, I've got a bit despondent. With Lager. I'm good at Cider, good at Wine, but the Lager is rubbish. Now it's cooler weather think I'll give it another go. I've got a North facing room that I can leave unheated. My favourite commercial Lager is Peroni, Sam Miguel etc. Could you give me a hint as to a kit that would be something like those Lagers?

Hi. Try one of the pilsner kits.

Hi. I've taken your advice, it's always been great, I'm doing a Pilsner now, with Lager yeast, to kick start the fermentation which took 3 days at 18 degrees I put it in a unheated bedroom and it's sitting consistently at 12°c, the bubbler has stopped and there is very little activity, is this too cool?

@@garyfff4757 Hi. Yes 12° is a little too cool perhaps raise it up to 15°C

I wish I had watched this video before my first brew! added 3 new things to my shopping list, finings, fermentation bucket with tap and bottler ! They would have solved my cloudy beer issue completely !

going to start doing lager soon, done your blackberry wine recipe(just waiting in bottles now) my Question is - my bucket has a hole in the lid for a grommet and airlock can i fully close the lid and use an airlock to expel the fermentation gases?
@Brewbitz
@Brewbitz 2 жыл бұрын
Sure. Either way works well. Just with very aggressive fermentations, it can froth up and blow through the airlock coating everything in beer or wine splatter. Cheers

Hi, what strength is the beer you are brewing and the ones on the website don't give the alcohol volume

Thank you for the feedback. We will look at putting the approximate abv for each beer kit on our website.

This is a link to our lagers - www.brewbitz.com/14-lager-kits - the muntons continental pils would be pretty close.

Just getting back into brewing after a long long time off; I notice you stir in the yeast here, but don't with ales, why is that?

Will do at some point, in Bath on Tuesdays at the mo', when you're shut, but will occasionally be over on other days, so will find a time; currently doing cider from our garden apples and a Wherry kit, so no rush; will be tackling something a bit more advanced soon though. Your videos are useful, thanks

What's the best way to take a gravity reading without a tap on the fermentation bucket (I've got the Brewbitz deluxe kit so that bucket you're using)?

Either siphon a small amount out or use a wine thief.

Hi I enjoyed the video very much. One thing I noticed though are you meant to stir well just before bottling/ I thought (probably wrongly) that the wort would get oxygen in it and possibly spoil?
@Brewbitz
@Brewbitz 8 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for watching. The stirring before bottling is needed to dissolve the priming sugar into the beer. The beer is not in contact with air for very long. We've never had a problem when doing this with any of our beers, ciders, lagers etc... If you were to leave it open to the air for a long time then the chances of spoiling will obviously be quite high. Cheers!

What is the point of sanitizing the bucket if you suck on the siphon transferring the bacteria from your mouth as well as spitting on the bucket?
